Looking out from the Inn’s wraparound veranda, guests are treated to breathtaking views of Old Harbor and the ocean beyond. The Atlantic Inn first opened its doors in 1879 as an inn. Since then, it has continuously served either in that capacity or as a boarding house. The Inn contains 21 rooms and welcomes you with a smiling and eager staff. Each room is different and individually decorated with antiques, plus a private bath, telephone and ceiling fan. Sorry, no AC but who needs it with the cool ocean breezes?! The expansive grounds are dotted with flowerbeds and paths that are perfect for peaceful strolls. Guests can enjoy invigorating games of croquet or tennis, and there is even a horseshoe pit for those up to the challenge. Children are welcome. The Inn’s Restaurant 1879 and Executive Chef Evan Wargo offer a truly unique dining experience, which focuses on seasonally fresh and locally sourced dishes. Menu options include creative appetizers, entrées, desserts and a special Chef’s Tasting Menu as well. Each item is meticulously prepared with many herbs and vegetables fresh from the Inn’s gardens. Ambiance abounds and is made more romantic by spectacular sunset views. The Inn is known throughout the region for the delicious Tapas and Specialty Cocktails served nightly on the Inn’s veranda and lawn by an unobtrusive staff. The Inn was recently voted “The best place to dine in Rhode Island while enjoying a sunset” by Rhode Island Monthly magazine and was honored by a visit from President William Clinton and his family in the ‘97 season. The Atlantic Inn is about a five-minute walk from Old Harbor where most ferries dock. Just outside of town are beautiful beaches, 200-foot high bluffs, historic lighthouses, bicycling trails and nature trails. For fishing enthusiasts the island is heaven.
