🤍🐄 An Important Update For Our Udderly Family 🐄🤍

This is another update I truly wish I didn’t have to make.

When we announced that Udderly Caffeinated would reopen on Wednesday, September 16th, I genuinely believed I would be ready.

I had hope that two weeks would be enough time for the medication to work, for therapy to help, for my mind and body to begin healing, and for me to walk back through those doors feeling more like myself again.

But I’ve learned something very important over these last couple of weeks: healing doesn’t follow a calendar.

Trauma therapy doesn’t have a deadline.

Postpartum psychosis doesn’t disappear because a date was circled on the calendar.

Medication, doctor appointments, therapy, rest, recovery, and learning how to feel like myself again all have their own timeline—and right now, I need to respect that timeline instead of trying to force myself to meet one I created.

So, with a very heavy heart, we need to let our Udderly family know that Udderly Caffeinated will NOT be reopening on Wednesday, September 16th.

At this time, we are not setting a new reopening date.

Please understand that this does not mean we have given up on Udderly Caffeinated.

Quite the opposite.

I still have hope.

I still think about the shop constantly. I still dream about what it can become. I still have ideas for our rebranding, our menu, our little café, and the place where there is always room for one more at our table.

But I am also beginning to understand that if I truly want to come back, I have to give myself the opportunity to actually get well first.

Putting another date on the calendar would only give me another deadline to race toward when what I really need right now is permission to heal without watching the clock.

I am continuing trauma therapy. I am continuing to doctor. I am continuing treatment for postpartum psychosis. And I am trying every single day to find my way back to myself.

Some days are better than others.

Some days I feel like I am making progress, and other days remind me just how much healing I still have ahead of me.

And I am learning that both kinds of days are part of recovery.

For almost five years, I have given Udderly Caffeinated everything I had. Right now, I need to give some of that same fight, love, patience, and determination to myself and my family.

So instead of promising you another date, I am going to promise you this:

I am going to keep trying.

I am going to keep showing up for treatment.

I am going to keep doing the work.

I am going to keep loving my family.

And when the time comes that I am healthy enough and truly ready to welcome you back through our doors, our Udderly family will be the first to know. 🤍

Thank you for continuing to love us through a chapter none of us expected.

Thank you for your prayers, messages, patience, kindness, generosity, and support. Thank you for understanding when I cannot respond. Thank you for continuing to believe in this little dream even while I need to step away from it.

And most of all, thank you for allowing me to be a person before I am a business owner.

We aren’t putting a date on healing anymore.

For now, we’re taking this one day at a time.

And we’re holding onto hope that, when the time is right, we’ll meet you back at our table. 🤍🐄☕️

All our love,
Malinda, Nolan & Charlie

🤍 A Little Update From Me 🤍

I wanted to take a moment to give everyone a little update on how I’m doing and, most importantly, to say thank you.

The simplest answer is: I’m doing okay, but I’m not doing great yet.

I am still struggling with a lot of symptoms related to postpartum psychosis, and some days and moments are much harder than others. But I am trying. I am getting up every day and doing everything I can to get better—not only for my little family, but for myself too.

Tomorrow I have my first round of bloodwork to see how my body is responding to my medication and to check my kidney function. We will also be checking my iron levels to determine whether I may need another blood transfusion. I have started medication as well as postpartum and PTSD trauma therapy, and I know therapy and recovery will continue for quite some time.

I’m learning that this isn’t something I can rush. Healing is going to take time, patience, professional help, and a lot of grace.

One thing that has become incredibly important to me through all of this is bringing more awareness to postpartum mental health.

Before experiencing it myself, I truly had no idea postpartum could look like this.

I had no idea how powerful postpartum depression and other postpartum mental health conditions could become. I didn’t understand how drastically they could change the way you think or how convincingly your own mind could tell you things about yourself that are so incredibly far from the truth.

Those thoughts can become very dark. And they can become very dangerous.

You can love your baby more than anything in this world and still have a brain that is telling you that you aren’t good enough for them. You can have a beautiful family, people who love you, and so many reasons to keep going—and still become trapped in thoughts that don’t reflect who you truly are or how deeply you are loved.

That is why we need to talk about postpartum mental health.

We need to talk about it before babies are born, not only after someone reaches a crisis.

Moms need to know what to watch for. Husbands, partners, grandparents, friends, and families need to know too, because postpartum doesn’t only affect a mom—it can impact an entire family.

I wish I had known more.

And if being open about what I am going through helps another mom recognize that she needs help sooner, or helps one family understand what their loved one may be experiencing, then sharing something this personal is worth it to me.

I also want to recognize the incredible strength of the women who have reached out and trusted me with their own postpartum experiences. Some of you have shared things you’ve carried quietly for years.

Thank you for trusting me with your stories.

Your honesty has reminded me that I am far from the only woman who has walked through something like this, and I hope together we can make these conversations a little less frightening and a lot less lonely.

And to our Udderly family—I don’t even know if I have the words to adequately thank you. 🤍

The prayers.
The messages.
The texts checking on me.
The encouragement.
The meals and acts of kindness.
The donations helping us keep Udderly Caffeinated going while we’re closed.
The people who have simply told us, “Take care of yourself. We’ll be here.”

Every single bit of it has mattered.

There have been some incredibly difficult moments, and knowing how many people are praying for me, thinking about us, supporting our little family, and rooting for me to get better has helped keep me moving forward.

You have rallied around us during one of the hardest seasons our family has ever experienced, and I don’t think I will ever be able to fully explain what that has meant to Nolan, Charlie, and me.

And because so many of you have asked…

🐄☕️ YES—we are still planning to reopen Udderly Caffeinated on Wednesday, September 16th! ☕️🐄

You’ll start seeing some of our rebranding right away, along with some changes we’re really excited about.

The complete transformation will take some time. Being closed means we currently don’t have our income coming in, so we won’t be able to change everything overnight. We are going to take it one step at a time and make changes as we’re able.

But I have something today that I didn’t have during some of my darkest moments:

Hope.

I have hope for my health.
I have hope for my family.
I have hope for Udderly Caffeinated.
And I have an incredible amount of faith in the community that has wrapped its arms around us when we needed it most.

For now, my biggest job is still getting better. I’m taking my medication. I’m going to therapy. I’m following my doctors’ recommendations. I’m spending time with my family. And I’m learning that taking care of myself isn’t something that needs to wait until everything else is taken care of.

I’m still finding my way back.

I’m doing okay. I’m not great yet. But I’m here, I’m getting help, and I’m trying every single day. Im still here. 🤍

From the very bottom of my heart, thank you for loving our family through this.

Thank you for praying.

Thank you for supporting our little business.

Thank you for sharing your stories.

Thank you for reminding me how much good still exists in this world.

And thank you for giving me the time and grace I need to heal.

We love you all more than you know, and we can’t wait to welcome our Udderly family back through those doors. 🤍🐄☕️

Wednesday, September 16th — we’ll see you at our table.

All our love,

Good evening, Udderly family. 🤍

I’ve always tried to be extremely open and honest with our customers and our community. Throughout my life, I’ve been told that I overshare, that I care too deeply, and that I worry too much about other people and their opinions. And maybe some of that is true.

I am a sensitive person. When I love someone—or something—I love with my entire being. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I have always tried to put the people I care about before myself.

Today, I want to share something deeply personal with you. Not because I am looking for sympathy, but because I believe there is strength in letting people in. And if sharing my story helps even one person realize they are not alone, then it is worth sharing.

Our son, Charlie, is truly our miracle.

For more than a decade, I was told becoming a mom probably wouldn’t happen for me. But if you truly know me, you know I don’t give up easily. Tell me I can’t do something, and you can bet I’m going to do everything in my power to prove otherwise.

The truth is, though, I haven’t really been the same since losing my mama bear.

My mom and I didn’t always have the relationship I wished we had, but in the last few years of her life, we finally began building the relationship I had always wanted. We were even preparing to go into business together when pancreatic cancer suddenly took her from us. I didn’t just lose my mom—I lost the future we were finally going to have together.

Coffee was something that always brought my mom and me together, and Udderly Caffeinated grew from so much of that love.

My husband, my dad, and I invested everything we had into making this little dream a reality. For nearly five years, I have poured my heart and soul into this place. There were times I worked more than 100 hours a week trying to keep everything going. I gave the shop everything I had—emotionally, physically, financially, and mentally—and somewhere along the way, I stopped leaving enough of myself for me.

Then life handed us another unimaginable journey.

We found out we were miraculously pregnant while also being told we were miscarrying. Somehow, against the odds, our little Charlie held on.

Every ultrasound, every heartbeat, every little Charlie kick gave me something back that I thought I had lost: hope. Love. Faith.

After everything it took to get him here, I think part of me believed the hardest part was behind us.

I was very wrong.

Our pregnancy was high-risk. Charlie spent time in the NICU, and I went through serious complications and multiple blood transfusions. After we finally made it through all of that, I discovered just how serious postpartum mental health struggles can become.

Postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and the other mental health symptoms I’ve experienced have affected me in ways I never imagined possible. That is a large part of why you haven’t seen me at the shop as much lately—and why, when you have seen me, I may not have seemed like myself.

I want to be clear about something: none of this has ever been directed toward Charlie. It has been directed inward, toward myself.

My mind convinced me that I wasn’t good enough.

Not good enough for Charlie.
Not good enough for my husband or my dad.
Not good enough for my employees, customers, friends, or family.

Today, we closed because I needed help.

I reached a point where I was in a very dark and dangerous place. I left in my car, and then I looked in the rearview mirror and saw Charlie’s things behind me. In that moment, I begged and pleaded with God to please get me home.

And He did.

When I got home, I reached out for help.

The only appointment available was today. My first instinct was to turn it down because I didn’t have anyone to take over the shop while I was gone.

And that thought alone made me realize something.

I have spent so much of my life worrying about taking care of everyone and everything else that, even at a moment when I desperately needed help, my first concern was still the coffee shop.

I have invested nearly everything I have into Udderly Caffeinated while putting my own health—and sometimes the people I love most—on the back burner.

I couldn’t do that anymore.

So I took the appointment.

And I am getting help.

I am sharing this because postpartum mental illness is real. It can be terrifying, and it can happen to people who love their babies more than life itself.

If another mom is reading this while fighting a battle inside her own mind, please know you do not have to fight it quietly or by yourself.

Asking for help is not giving up.

For me, asking for help is how I am choosing to keep going.

And that brings me to Udderly Caffeinated.

We are NOT permanently closing. 🤍

We are simply taking a short break.

For the first time in a very long time, I need to give myself permission to rest, heal, get the help I need, spend time with my family, and find my way back to myself.

At the same time, we are going to use this break to breathe new life into Udderly Caffeinated.

I believe deeply in this little shop, and I believe in the community that has carried us, supported us, and loved Udderly Caffeinated for nearly five years.

So during this break, we are going to rest.

We are going to heal.

We are going to rebuild.

And we are going to rebrand Udderly Caffeinated into something that carries even more of the heart it was always meant to have.

We will still have the legendairy variety of beverages you know and love, but we will also be expanding further into a café, with a larger food menu and so much more to offer.

More than anything, I want to create a place that feels like what coffee always meant to my mom and me:

Connection.

A place to gather.

A place to laugh.

A place to have hard conversations.

A place to celebrate the good days and find comfort on the difficult ones.

A place where there is always room for one more at our table. 🤍

Udderly Caffeinated isn’t disappearing.

We’re giving it—and ourselves—a chance to breathe so we can come back stronger.

🐄 WE WILL REOPEN WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH! 🐄

We’ll be rested, healing, renewed, and ready to welcome you back with more to offer than ever before.

And for anyone who already has catering booked with us, please don’t worry:

All confirmed catering orders will still be fulfilled as scheduled.

We are incredibly grateful that you have trusted us to be part of your special events, gatherings, and celebrations, and we will continue honoring those commitments during our short break.

Please be patient with us while we take the time we need to make these changes.

And please know how incredibly grateful we are for every person who has walked through our doors, ordered a drink, grabbed lunch, enjoyed something from our bakery, trusted us with a catering order, shared a post, told a friend about us, supported our family, checked on us, or simply believed in this crazy little dream.

I am truly sorry for the short notice and for any inconvenience this break may cause.

I am choosing to believe that there are still beautiful chapters ahead—for me, for my family, and for Udderly Caffeinated.

This isn’t goodbye.

It’s a chance for all of us to breathe, heal, grow, and begin our next chapter.

Thank you for loving us through every season. Thank you for giving me the grace to take this time. And thank you for being part of the Udderly family.

We love you all more than you know, and we cannot wait to welcome you back to our table. 🤍🐄☕️
