Great atmosphere along with great food to make one awesome dining experience! Our restaurant has been in existence since 1926 in Downtown New Roads, Louisiana, and though it is not the original building, Morel's has been serving food to customers since before your grandmother can remember. In 1950 a small cabin sat on the banks of beautiful False River, available for fishermen to rent for the week

end. Thereafter, in 1974, the area along the lake was developed and in 1983 the Morels, the owners of the cabin, turned the cabin into a “Bait Shop.”

The fishermen enjoyed the convenience of the “Bait Shop” so much that they requested that the owners also provide them with sandwiches and drinks to take on their fishing trips. The people of New Roads added their requests for hot soups and plate lunches, and Morel’s Restaurant formed. Still on the banks of False River, in the shadow of that small fishing cabin, Morel’s Restaurant has grown to become a landmark for all who desire excellent Southern cuisine and a tradition for all New Roadians who still fondly call it “The Bait Shop.”

Our restaurant has a River Room which is situated directly over the water and overlooks False River, with amazing sunsets and vistas for your party or event. To rent this spectacular room, please email us or call us in advance to determine availability for your event.

Next week's meal deal! Take and bake lasagna! This is our homemade lasagna with layers of ground beef & pork cooked in our creole tomato sauce, ricotta cheese, mozzarella and pesto. All you do is bake at 375 for 45 minutes with the lid on, then remove the lid for the final 10 until it's nice and bubbly. We're sending you with a side of smothered corn to pair along with it.
