A new sandwich for these spring vibes and yes I’m ignoring that it’s going to snow tomorrow: curried tofu and fennel sandwich with tomato achaar yogurt marinade, slivered fresh fennel, pickled red onion, tamarind aioli, on house baked focaccia.

Plus white bean soup and a new open-faced pb&j tartine with good pb and housemade plum jam.

Plus: Mac & cheese, crispy cole slaw with cashew ranch and pickles, tahini bread pudding, chai granola, 50+ flavors of chocolates, pastries galore, and the best specialty coffee drinks!! 💐😵‍💫💐😵‍💫💐😵‍💫

Valentine’s specialties are speed walking out the door today so if you have your eye on a certain treat come in sooner rather than later. We’ll have good stock of chocolates all weekend but we’re anticipating selling out of You + Me Heart Boxes and Valentine’s Bark and Love is Dead Skulls by sometime on the 14th.

It’s time. Our Valentine’s sweets are stocked up in the shop. We should have good supplies of everything except maybe this Valentine’s Bark through the holiday. Everything is fresh and has a good shelf life, so shopping early is smart! Every year we limit our supplies of treats on our shipping website () to ensure we have enough for our local beloveds, even though it means subjecting the staff to endless “why is the website empty!!” phone calls. 💔🥹💔Local is where it’s at!

Pink drink season, give yourself over to it. The shop is so Valentine’s and ruffly right now that I could grab all these beautiful photo props within a few feet of the counter to show you the grand return of the Heart Beet Latte: rose cardamom syrup, espresso (this one is decaf!), and a tiny splash of beet juice.

Not pictured is our Red Hot Date Latte with a date syrup infused with cayenne, cinnamon, and vanilla — February drink specials abound!

Also not pictured is that the Health Inspector walked in when I was taking this photo — we did great! I need to put the lid back on the garbage can in the bathroom that I took off because it was annoying and wonky. Cheers to our crew for keeping this place so sparkling! 💪

We’ll be open Friday but will be preferring cash payments so that the boycott can impact the financial system, and we’ll be participating in a donation from many HV businesses to — we’re also getting more Immigrants Make America Great stickers from because we’re almost out and (sigh, I really hoped we wouldn’t need to) lawn signs printed again for your spring thaw needs, both of which have a donation attached.

As a third space — not to mention informal warming center?! — and having been closed two days last week we’re not in a position to close right now but we salute all the wonderful places who can. Your cash dollars in support of local businesses and boycotting mega corporations will make a difference tomorrow.

I’m feeling…..a tiny bit of optimism?? seeing SO many of us come together to say that this is not how we want to live. And don’t forget that the budget vote has been moved to TODAY, Thursday, so make lots of calls to tell your reps to defund (dismantle, put on trial, etc) ICE.

Reminder that we’re staying closed today to give everyone time to clear the roads. Can you take some time today to use to tell your reps that we kinda have a halfway decent constitution & checks & balances thing in this country and not following them (like when even the NRA is mad — ok ok not going to get into it but) is not kewl and could cost them their jobs yes I’m talking to you ?

Also TBH it’s been a 🤑CRAP🤑 January and it’s always a crap January but between rising costs and everything else this one is one of the absolute worst. We’re comparatively “well-positioned” (I originally said “lucky,” but it was 20 years of backbreaking labor to build up that side of the business so I’m not attributing that to luck, uh) bc we can make up for shortfalls in January (and there are always shortfalls in January) by selling Valentine’s chocolate on the internet and that’s really the only thing keeping us afloat right now.

So tomorrow when it’s safe to be out & about, if you can go out to dinner at a local restaurant, stop by our café or one of the many other beautiful ones in the Hudson Valley for a nice treat, get a book to read in the next storm at a local shop, grab some flowers or chocolates or an Oh Darling or cortado or an abolish ICE tote from us — it means the world. Literally: it’s keeping the world of small indie businesses of the HV going. 💖
