it is too early to make a witty joke about it so here we go …

There is a boil water advisory over most of the city. We will only be serving cold drinks made with water and ice pulled from before the advisory came out. We are reaching out to our roaster about how to setup alternative water connections to our brewers and espresso machines.

Coffee is back on the menu !

Just a headsup, we will be opening late on Tuesday and hope the boil water advisory will be over soon.

We will be closing at 6:30pm tonight as the SWBNO has just expanded the boil water advisory.

Marking ourselves safe from the current boil water advisory, at least so far.

We will be open regular hours tonight as a barista just volunteered to work the evening shift. You can toast the upcoming New Year (until 11pm at least :) ) with a hot mocha and a good book or board game !

We will be closing at 4pm om Christmas Eve and all day on Christmas this week so baristas can spend time with friends and family during the holidays.

We are also going to contribute 10% of our ring this Sunday to the Hispanic Apostolate. We have been forutnate this year and feel a responsibility to let people know they are not alone this holiday season.

It's hard to believe it's been 20 years ! We would love to put on a grand party to celebrate but it just doesn't feel right when there is so much need right now.

Back in 2005 the original owners of Zotz Cafe planned on leaving town after Katrina. I had left the Food Bank the summer of 2005 to go back to teaching and my wife was working as a Veterinary Technician when the storm hit. Each week I had to attend meetings to see if I would still have a job and my wife lost her job as the Louisiana SPCA location near us flooded and relocated across the bridge to the West Bank. At that time we took out money on our house and purchased Zotz. Our idea and our hearts were of the mind that New Orleans would come back by the love of those who lived here. We knew people needed a place to come together and reconnect and it would be awhile before franchises felt safe enough to do so. We hired back all the old workers who came back to the city and learned how to run a coffee shop on the fly.

Now 20 years later after many ups and downs the shop is doing better than ever. However many are in need in these times, especially with the cuts to Food Banks. I know how much we relied on the USDA at Second Harvest, and in turn how much it helped our farmers. With Thanksgiving coming up it just doesn't feel right to spend money celebrating our success without giving back to the community that helped us get here.

We will match up to $500 in this campaign by dedicating 20% of the average daily ring of this upcoming weeks sales. Please join us if you can. We will also setup a couple of tables where you can drop off food, more details on that to come.

We will be closing early on Friday at 6pm to give our baristas a chance to enjoy Halloween but have no fear, because Oak Street will keep the night going ! The first two blocks + will be supporting Trick or Treating for the kids or those young at heart from 6pm until 8pm and we will have someone stationed out front giving away candy. Afterwards there will be the Ghoul's Ball on the second block !
