It's spritz night!

Hey all,

It's September in New Orleans, which means it's still summer.... and will be for a while yet. So tonight we're doing something a little different. From 5 to 7 we're giving away samples of the Aperol Spritz.

I know, Thursday at St. Roch means w**e. But an Italian aperitivo is w**e adjacent enough, and this one was built for exactly this kind of weather.

If you only know Aperol as the orange drink in everybody's vacation photos, it's got a longer story than that. Two brothers made it in Padua over a hundred years ago as a low alcohol before-dinner drink, and it stayed a Northern Italy thing for decades. Campari bought the brand in 2003 and took it worldwide. Twenty years ago about 60 million Aperol Spritzes were served a year. Today it's around 1.5 billion.

The recipe is simple. Three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol, one splash of soda, orange slice. The prosecco goes in first so it keeps that bright orange color.

Now, if you've been avoiding it because you tried one once and thought it was too bitter, tonight is the night to give it another shot. Campari likes to build their marketing around bitter is something you earn. They say it usually takes a couple of tries before it clicks, and this is a free one.

The other good use for it is what it was actually made for. It's an aperitif, meant to be drunk before dinner to wake your appetite up. It's low alcohol, so it won't wreck you before you eat. Grab a sample, then go get dinner from one of the vendors.

Every w**e bottle in the building is still 10% off during the tasting, 5 to 7pm, as always.

Come by after work, cool off, try something new. Bring some friends or come and meet some new ones.

Come on now, yeah you rite.

Hey all!

Salted Pearl is making po-boys.

Fried shrimp or fried oyster, both dressed, or not, up to you.Chef Tyger goes and puts his own house-made remoulade on top instead of the usual mayo. Creole remoulade, mustard-forward, a little tang, a little heat behind it. On a fried oyster, where you've got soft brine inside a crispy crust, it's killer. I'm going to have another one.

The oysters themselves are the same ones Tyger's been serving raw, charbroiled, and Rockefeller, from a fourth-generation farm down in St. Bernard Parish. So frying them and laying them on French bread isn't exactly a stretch for St. Roch Market. It's not like that idea hasn't been done HERE before. Has it?

Meet me at St. Roch,
Kevin.

Coffee in New Orleans

Marielle Songy (https://www.mariellesongy.com/) and I sat down to discuss her new book (https://lsupress.org/9780807186213/coffee-culture-new-orleans/) on my Coffee with Kevin You Tube show. (https://www.youtube.com/coffeewithkevin) I wish I could spend time doing more of these. It's fun to talk to people doing great things like Marielle.

Of course this topic though I had to make time for. Marielle, interviewed me for the book so I wanted to show it off for her. It's a great snapshot in the history of New Orleans coffee world. New Orleans has such a rich coffee history having the story told and documented is so important. The story hasn't been all put together and told like this before.

Check it out!

Taste some WhistlePig

Six pours. One barrel. Twenty seats.

Wednesday, August 12 at Roch's Reprieve.

We're starting with something you can't get anywhere else. Doeboy's Manhattan riff, (https://www.strochmarket.com/news/meet-the-doeboy) aged down in an oak barrel behind our bar with WhistlePig PiggyBack 6 Year Rye.

Then three whiskeys from the same house built on three different grains. Wheat, bourbon, rye, back to back. You'll taste exactly what the grain does.

Then we pour the 12 Year and the 15 Year next to the 10, so you taste what a decade and a half does.

WhistlePig's people are here all night to tell you what you're drinking and why. They're bringing swag.

$85. Doors at 6. Guided tasting runs 6:30 to 8. Bar stays open after.

Twenty seats. That's the whole room, and this one won't repeat.

21+, ID required. One ticket per guest. Please plan your ride home.

Check out our event on Wednesday, Aug 12, 2026.

It's Thursday!

Hey all,

It's August in New Orleans and nobody's pretending otherwise, so tonight Andrew's pouring three whites, all crisp, all cold, from Oregon, Spain, and Italy.

First up is the Ouest White from Division Winemaking in the Pacific Northwest. It's a wild-ferment blend made by Loire-trained w**emakers, so it drinks closer to a French white than anything domestic you've had lately. Stone fruit, citrus, a little savory edge.

Then we have the Care Garnacha Blanca from Cariñena in Aragón, back by popular demand. It's old-vine white Grenache with this nose of green apple and orange zest, fresh and clean with a nice bit of weight behind it.

Last one is the Terre Porziane Frascati Superiore from just outside Rome, made from Malvasia Puntinata, the ancient native grape that nearly disappeared. Peach skin, white flowers, a salty mineral cut.

Every bottle in the building is 10% off during the tasting, 5 to 7pm, as always.

So come on down tonight, grab a glass, learn more from Andrew, and get some bites from the vendors to pair. Bring friends or come make some.

Meet me at St. Roch,
Kevin
