Can't tell you how excited I am for the return of JazzFest & the privilege of cooking to this music.
But, it will be bittersweet for Live Oak. I'm very sad to announce that we have made arrangements to close the Cafe after the Fest, with Sunday May 8th's Brunch being our last service.
Anyone who knows me knows that I don't give up without a fight. However, after a long struggle, the final straw came with omicron in Dec 21 and Jan 22. The uptick in business since Mardi Gras has not been enough, fast enough, to touch our losses. Simply put, we are out of time and options.
And then, there's always that stubborn, improbable hope. Sharing our situation with close staff, friends and musicians has led to a gofundme on our behalf called "Life Support for Live Oak." See the link in comments below. Thank you to everyone who has helped organize this, contributed and shared. If by some miracle we raise enough, we would be over-the-moon to have the opportunity to continue, but we have to be realistic, understanding that times are tough for everyone and there is no shortage of good causes that need support.
Live Oak has been my life and my baby since day one, and this will be a difficult transition. The fact that we've survived the Pandemic thus far, against all odds, and made it to our 9th year of operation is something that I'm proud of, and grateful for.
We are also blessed to be able to go out on a high note, with fantastic music, JazzFest energy and the chance to say goodbye to our friends, customers and community.
We love you, thank you, and please come see us during the fest for a last hurrah.
While things may seem like they are returning to normal, we're not alone in our struggle. You can help other small, independent restaurants by urging your senator to replenish the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF).
