In 2000, Grammy award-winning trombonist and NEA Jazz Master, Delfeayo Marsalis formed the Uptown Music Theatre (UMT), a non-profit organization that empowers youth through educational programming and musical theater training. In 2008, Marsalis formed its sister organization, the Uptown Jazz Orchestra (UJO). The two organizations enjoy a symbiotic relationship – UJO musicians offer a rich talent pool from which to draw instructors and UMT musicians are likewise often guest performers for the UJO. Featuring up to 18 accomplished musicians at any given concert, the Uptown Jazz Orchestra sets the standard for celebrating jazz. Tonight's performance is led by master bassist, Jason Stewart.

Paul Sanchez is a New Orleans–based singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer whose career spans more than four decades in the city’s vibrant music scene. He gained national attention as a founding member of the folk-rock band Cowboy Mouth, helping define their energetic sound before launching a prolific solo career rooted in sharp storytelling and deeply personal songwriting. Blending rock, folk, and Crescent City soul, Sanchez has become known for his heartfelt lyrics and commanding stage presence.

Beyond performing, Sanchez is an accomplished composer and collaborator, creating acclaimed musical works including Nine Lives: The Musical of Cat Stevens and The True Story of the Neville Brothers. A dedicated advocate for New Orleans culture, he has used his music to chronicle the city’s resilience, particularly in the years following Hurricane Katrina, solidifying his role as one of the city’s resonant musical voices.

For this performance, Paul is joined by master pianist, Meghan Swartz.
