On a 3-paneled storefront window stand three larger-than-life decals derived from men’s and women’s bathroom placards and from a “Curb Your Dog” sign. Playfully, the man’s, the woman’s and the dog’s heads have each been replaced by a coffee cup. Proprietors Miss Tracy and David created Addiction with the goal of crafting a space that reflects the couple’s passions: coffee, community, irreverence a
nd reclaimed materials. From an elegant, simple cup of dark roast to a perfectly proportioned cappuccino and from a Mexico-style stone ground chocolate to Miss Tracy's Addiction, an eponymous signature drink with espresso, coconut milk, honey, and cayenne, it’s clear that Addiction pours a great deal of love, time and experience into its product. Addiction Coffeehouse is giving New Orleanians what they love most - a new addiction worth talking about. Originally a hair salon, the large space has been split into two – one side houses Addiction Coffeehouse and the other side remains a hair salon, which has recently been re-launched as Kinky & Straight. Miss Tracy spearheaded the renovations herself. A proud dumpster diver, carpenter and welder--amongst many other things, Miss Tracy's love for the discarded, for woodworking and for metals are reflected in each salvaged and repurposed board and furnishing. The effect is raw, authentic and 100% New Orleans, which is at once both wistful and inviting. The shop is strikingly beautiful, with a wealth of materials, textures and colors that pull you in from the doorway. Funky cypress cuttings and wire spools serve as tables. Beautiful reclaimed cornices and welded copper barstools vie with black chalkboard walls and raw concrete floors and ceilings. Precision and intention are at play here, chic flirting with up-cycled and old items anchoring new ones to bring a fullness and balance to the design. The open door between Addiction and its sister shop, the urban-focused Kinky & Straight Salon, steers the shop away from the straight-laced study-hall feel found in many coffee bars. Located at 909 Iberville St, Addiction is just steps from the French Quarter’s finest hotels such as The Ritz-Carlton, The Saint, the Hyatt and the Marriott. Addiction has taken the concept of farm to table and has distilled it to farm to cup. Indeed, Addiction is passionate about sourcing the best indigenous ingredients and executing with excellence proven processes. Featuring locally-roasted, small-batrched coffee from New Orleans-based French Truck Coffee, raw cane sugar and syrup from Three Brothers Farm, honey from Bernard's Acadiana Apiary, and glass-bottled milks and creams from Mauthe's Progresss Milk Barn, Addiction takes great pride in serving the perfect cup. Despite its commitment to excellence, Addiction shuns pretentiousness and embodies inclusiveness with a sly wink, the menu is organized into three degrees of caffeine potency: Habit, Fix and Lit. Continuing with the tongue-in-cheek theme, baristas sport "Dealer" T-shirts, and patrons have the opportunity to purchase "Addict" T-shirts. Repeat patrons are given "I'm an Addict" loyalty cards, and the tip jar is labeled "Be My Enabler". Top quality coffees and teas, engaging baristas, a lively atmosphere and a good dose of humor conspire to make Addiction Coffeehouse a great place to cultivate a habit.
