Goodbye Lagniappe, hello Laurel!

We’re excited to share a new name for a familiar favorite. Lagniappe Blend is becoming Laurel Blend.

While the name and packaging are changing, the coffee is not. Laurel is the same house blend you know and love, with the same roast profile and quality.

The name Laurel comes from Laurel Street, home to Cherry’s flagship café, and the ancient tradition of laurel crowns as symbols of honor and achievement. As our best-selling coffee and house blend, it represents our pursuit of a coffee crafted with intention, consistency, and care.

Cherry has humble beginnings, starting out as a 3x6ft coffee bar inside Steins Deli 13 years ago. With the support from the local community, and Dan Stein giving us a place to start, it paved the way for our brick and mortar location on Laurel. We will always remember our roots and the experiences that helped build the (woman and) business that stands today.

New Orleans is all about culture and traditions. Here is one of mine. Dan, Regis and I have birthdays a month apart. Regis and I are leobabies, and for years, Dan would take us out for dinner to celebrate. We would return the favor and take him out for his birthday, Sept 9th (that’s today!). Please go buy a sandwich and WISH DAN A HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! He is a pillar in the New Orleans community and life wouldn’t be the same without him!

And if you dont know Regis, he pretty much runs the deli, and has been apart of Steins as long as I’ve known about it.

Today we lost a true legend. 💔

Dolly Parton showed the world that you could be unapologetically yourself, wildly successful, incredibly smart, and still lead with generosity.

She came from very little and never seemed to forget where she came from. As her success grew, so did the ways she gave back—funding scholarships and education programs, helping families rebuild after natural disasters, supporting children’s healthcare, donating to medical research, and putting hundreds of millions of books into the hands of children through her Imagination Library.

What we love most about Dolly wasn’t just what she accomplished, but what she chose to do with it. She used her success to create opportunities for other people and continually invested back into the communities that shaped her.

She was funny, fearless, glamorous, generous, and entirely herself. A woman who proved you could be incredibly successful without losing your humanity—or your sense of humor.

Here’s to doing things your own way, taking care of your people, and leaving things a little better than you found them.

Meet Moss, the person behind roasting the coffees you know and love. ☕️

Moss has been working in specialty coffee for seven years. A Wisconsinite at heart (and with the work ethic to prove it), they moved to New Orleans three and a half years ago and joined Cherry as a barista and wholesale educator. When Moss first moved here, they took home first place at more than a few latte art throwdowns and, not be exaggerated, one of the most talented latte artists we’ve seen.

Their dedication to the craft quickly took them beyond extraction and pouring swans and tulips. Just a month after joining Cherry, Moss began working in the roastery, dedicating themselves to understanding and perfecting every step of the roasting process.

For the past two-plus years, Moss has been Cherry’s Executive Roaster, bringing that same curiosity, precision, and attention to detail to every batch. Their goal is always to bring out the best in each coffee while honoring all of the work that went into it long before it reached our roastery.

We believe you can’t make coffee better than it was when it left the farm—you can only take great care not to lose what made it special in the first place. Moss takes that responsibility seriously, roasting each coffee with the intention and care needed to let the quality and work of the producer shine through.

When they’re not at Cherry, you can find Moss on the roller derby track, at the gym working on their strength and agility, swimming laps, or cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fun fact: Moss’s favorite dinosaur is the Pachycephalosaurus. 🦖

There are few things better than a perfectly crafted cappuccino. 6oz of perfection with equal parts espresso, steamed milk and microfoam. Microfoam happens when aerating the milk during the steaming process. It’s a delicate process where too little aeration leads to where the foam is gone within the first sip, or too much aeration leads to bigger bubbles in milk that is thick and dry. A perfectly steamed cappuccino should have latte art with a heart, if you’re getting Rosetta’s/tulips/swans that’s considered a flat white because there is more steamed milk than foam. It’s the small things that add up to the optimal experience.

Our chef, Krickett, has been teaching her 9-year-old son, RJ, about entrepreneurship by helping him bring his own clothing brand to life.

Through the experience, she’s teaching him about business, creativity, responsibility, and what it means to turn a dream into reality.

Entrepreneurship is a big part of the spirit behind Cherry, and we love seeing that same curiosity and drive encouraged in others—especially at such a young age. We’re excited to see RJ take an idea of his own and put it out into the world.

Tomorrow, Krickett and RJ will be setting up in the Cherry courtyard from 1–3 PM to share what they’ve been working on.
