Greetings,

It is with mixed emotions that I announce HI-BALLZ’s last days at 4901 Canal Street. I’m incredibly grateful for the community we’ve built together over the years and all the magical moments we conjured up! I accepted this daunting challenge when I was merely a scared 20-year-old with lots of inspiration, and after nine years, with the help of so many, we’ve accomplished much more than I ever hoped. Many of you watched me grow up here, and witnessed me trying to make an impact in the community. I will always remember my co-conspirators who assisted me in forming a new kind of cafe for the people, by harnessing the mysterious power of plants!

I’d love to close out this chapter with all of you. To celebrate, I’ll be hosting a special Farewell in collaboration with the Open Works Collective’s Event “Spooky Market Jam Fest” on our final night October 20th, from 4-9pm. There’ll be a lineup of live local bands and many art market vendors! I also invite you to visit us from October 17-19th to enjoy a last round of beverages!

Although the cafe is closing, this is not goodbye forever. I remain an artist at heart and am committed to continuing my creative journey. Stay tuned to our social media accounts for updates, as there may be something new and exciting on the horizon that reflects the same spirit as the vegan cafe and
harm reduction club you’ve come to love.

**TODAY** Renowned author Felice Picano will join us virtually to read excerpts from his Hollywood Novel and other works, and share photos and stories. Picano began working in Hollywood in the ‘70s, and the stories are abundant. 

Felice Picano is an acclaimed novelist, playwright, poet, teacher, activist, lecturer, editor and historian.  He is a pioneer in the LGBTQ+ literary community, having co-founded the groundbreaking SeaHorse Press, the first publishing house in the United States to focus on gay oriented works. 

This is the second installment in Tubby & Coo’s ongoing Q***r History Author series.
