Looking to bring Umbrian cooking by way of our restaurant and gourmet shop! Many, many years ago, in a town called Assisi, lived a man named Francis. He devoted his life to God and to caring for his neighbor. In the closing days of his life, Francis (whom we now know as Saint Francis) reflected on the beauties of our shared life with Mother Nature. He conveyed these sentiments in the way he knew b

est – by writing a poem in his language, Italian, becoming the first person to write in the vernacular instead of Latin. Francis wrote of a splendor no man or woman can escape: Nullu homo vivente po skappare. Scappare, as it is written in today’s Italian, a word that originated in Assisi and used by one man to convey his love for Earth’s majesties and his home. This is what Skappo brings to you – a love for the wonders of nature, along with a passion for our culture. These sentiments have been brought to New Haven through the union of an inspired native of Assisi and a young artistic American student. It was a pristine spring day when Anna Gambacorta and Thomas Sincavage first exchanged glances across Assisi’s Piazza Minerva (June 3, 1973 at 3:20pm – to be exact!). The union has grown over thirty-nine years of marriage, and now includes children Michael, Yvette and Marc, daughters-in-law Louise and Minola, and grandchildren Massimo, Rocco, Marcello, Giuliano and Stella! Come, escape with us to celebrate together culture, friends and life! Enjoy the foods of Italy, with old friends or new ones! Toast with us perche’ la vita e’ bella, e la vogliamo vivere sempre piu’ – because life is beautiful, and we want to live every moment!

Happy 50 years to Mamma & Cicci!
50 years ago today the art student and Young woman from Italy, who happened to cross paths on an Italian street three years earlier, wed.

Their story is one out of a book as they would write letters, send gifts, and make visits to one another over the course of three years.

And over the course of 50 years, they have raised three children, have seven grandchildren, and have made countless others who have become family, smile through meeting you at Skappo and La Bottega… among other places.

And there were always constant themes laughter, dancing, and food! We always shared meals growing up in which we would break out and dance or push-ups challenges once dinner was through… or maybe there would be singing involved…. And if there was music, you knew our parents would be the first on the floor (or rather, our mother would be pulling our father up to be the first 😂)

And this past Sunday, (thank you, Deacon Ernie!)they renewed their vows in the same church where they first said them. Mamma wanted to be surrounded by her grandchildren as she celebrated this momentous occasion. It was truly a beautiful day and a beautiful celebration.
Happy 50th anniversary to these two wonderful people♥️ AUGURI!!

And if you have never had them before, a few tips! Do not, we repeat do not make a sauce with them 🤪 they are finishing tomatoes that are delicious on top of toasted, ciabatta bread, or on top of a pizza after it’s come out of the oven, or even on fresh pasta after it’s been taken off the heat! Just slice and enjoy! 🇮🇹

WE DID IT!!! WE DID IT!!! 🎉

There are so many photos and videos to follow this one but this sums up 21 years perfectly!!

Marc surprised us with an incredible jazz band that filled the walls of Skappo with so much fun and joy that we could not have concluded this adventure in any other way!
We had a dream and together we accomplished it! No sadness, no frowns just pure love for all that we did as a family and for sharing that with all of you!
We did it our way! We decided that this was where one journey ends and another begins. Everyone is happy, healthy and the restaurant was thriving….but this, this is when the past 21 years are put to a close in the most amazing way!

And THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!! as Michael has said every night for the past two months was like the best episode of “This is Your Life” and it truly was! Each and every single one of you has had such a profound effect on our lives; each family, each individual, each couple, will forever stay in our hearts!

With immense love and gratitude,
Anna, Tom, Michael, Yvette and Marc

Another Skappo story…
The other night our mom made her way around the room talking with patrons, hearing stories and sharing experiences.
There was a family there who has visited before but now with their sons.

The family enjoyed their meal and was getting ready to leave when I noticed one of the sons walking in the direction of the restrooms but looking a little confused, so I asked if he was looking for them and where they were. To which he replied pointing to our mom “actually, I’d like to please give Nonna a hug”

She lit up like the brightest star and gave this young man the biggest and tightest hug! The two of them just gleaming! It was a beautiful thing to see such a young man have such a kind heart!

So, on this Thanksgiving Eve please, in the spirit of Skappo, give out those hugs, tell people you love them, give a stranger a compliment, spread kindness, love, joy and compassion.

We send a hug to all of you tonight and wish you all a happy, healthy and delicious Thanksgiving. ❤️

This is fun
