Ingredients:
For the crust:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Ice water
For the filling:
6-7 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
For assembly:
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
Directions:
Prepare the crust:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and granulated sugar. Add the chilled butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and mix with a fork until the dough starts to come together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
Divide the dough into two equal portions, shape each portion into a disk, and wrap them tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
Prepare the filling:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
Roll out one disk of dough on a lightly floured surface into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Carefully transfer the dough to the prepared pie dish, gently pressing it into the bottom and up the sides.
Fill the pie crust with the prepared apple filling, making sure it's evenly distributed. Dot the top of the filling with small pieces of butter.
Roll out the second disk of dough into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Place it over the filling, and trim any excess dough. Crimp the edges of the pie crust to seal.
Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking. Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar for a golden finish.
Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips, and bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.
Serve your Homemade Apple Pie warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
Enjoy the heavenly aroma and delicious taste of Homemade Apple Pie, a timeless dessert that's perfect for sharing with loved ones! ππ₯§β¨
