Happy Labor Day AND Margarita Monday!! 50% off all day long!

We are doing something a little crazy…but it’s for the children after all. We are launching KIDS EAT FREE Thursday nights starting tonight! In honor of the back to school season and getting back in the swing of “routines” we are chipping in by helping the cook of the house take the night off. We invite you to treat yourselves to dinner while bringing the kids along and we will pick up their portion tab. Now, just like that, your Thursday nights are figured out! **e

A little game of “ask the owner” was had yesterday. Drop us questions if you have them. Make them nice ones though. We will be back with more of these from Ross, Cristina and the whole Birdhouse staff.

Thank you for stopping by MySA! We appreciate you shining a light on our little operation here in Gruene!

Eleven years ago today we signed the final paperwork and sent the funds to buy a little place in Gruene called The River House Tea Room. We bought it from the talented Chef Carol Hill who currently owns and operates buttermilkcafetx (Go see her for some of the best breakfast and lunch food you will ever have in Texas.)

We moved from Houston knowing almost nobody here, and we knew next to nothing about owning a restaurant. But we knew we wanted to be part of this community, and we wanted to raise our daughter here.

The road from then to now has been a wild one.
We reopened as The River House in February 2016 and spent the next six years running a scratch kitchen restaurant that became known for w**e dinners, dinner concerts, special events, and a whole lot of great memories. Along the way we met incredible regulars, neighbors, employees, and friends who have made this place so much more than a restaurant, and we are grateful for every single one of you.

Then COVID changed everything. But we bounced back as The Birdhouse – Fancy Chicken & Fine Cocktails in May 2023, a brand that we truly believe was built through the demand, conversations, and feedback from this community. Today we’re proud to specialize in fried chicken, cocktails, and good old Southern hospitality.

Thank you for letting us be a small part of this community for the past 11 years. I promise we don’t take that for granted. Eleven years down.

Here’s to taking another bite out of whatever comes next. ❤️
