Okay here’s an informational post that may border on messy so strap in sis because the tea is about to pour.
We have, over the past several days, received several complaints from people who order our food through DoorDash. I want to directly address those complaints right now.
First, we understand that several people are placing orders, then *some time* later, whether it’s 20 minutes or an hour or 2 hours, their order is abruptly canceled and they receive zero food.
Second, we also know that doordash does not offer our entire menu on their site, and we now know that they price it different than we do.
So. Here are a few facts, and then we can get in to the conjecture and grey area.
1. We never asked to be on DoorDash. We do not partner with them, nor do we partner with any third party delivery site. They just started calling us one day and showing up for food. That was fine, until issues arose.
2. These orders being canceled is not *directly* our fault. Over the last week, we have lost several hundred dollars in DoorDash mistakes, several hundred dollars that, until we are directly reimbursed by DoorDash and receive several other assurances, has caused us to effectively end any relationship we have with DoorDash. When they call, we will no longer accept an order from them. So please don’t place an order for our food, through them, until further notice on this page.
Conjecture and Grey Area
While these orders being canceled isn’t *directly* our fault, we will share some responsibility for the issues. We didn’t nip it in the bud quick enough, and that responsibility ultimately falls on me. I could give you a sob story about my personal life or how spread thin I am, but ultimately it is my job to ensure that you, our clientele, have the best experience we are capable of giving, and I failed in that aspect for several of you last week. Please accept my apology.
For those that didn’t know- we DO offer carryout! We package it as best we can. We buy the highest heat quart containers available. They aren’t cheap, I promise. We make a huge effort to keep our foods integrity throughout the entire process- we cool the noodles after they’re cooked, we put all of the cold ingredients in a separate container from the hot ingredients (as shown in the pics) to be sure the noodles don’t get gummy, and so you can reheat effectively (bring broth container to a boil, pour it over the noodle container, figure 8 with the chopsticks, slurp your face off).
*OUR PERSONAL THOUGHTS ON THIRD PARTY DELIVERY SERVICES*
THEY SUUUUUUUUUUUCK. BOOOOOOOOOO.
First, what they do, is add your restaurant to their site, without seeking your consent. After a certain amount of time, they then start soliciting you to “partner with them”, meaning they take a cut of your sales from their site. Usually 20-30%, which any local restaurateur will tell you is WAYYY higher than their profit margin- so, essentially, you have to lose money to be featured on their site. When you raise that concern, they’re ready with an answer- “WELL, what if we raise your prices on the site to offset your losses?”. Essentially, they want to pass the buck not only to you, the consumer, via fees and up-charges, but then take from me, the purveyor, all under the guise that this is somehow a mutually beneficial partnership. When that’s not enough, some of them will even offer to promote your restaurant ON YOUR DIRECT COMPETITORS PAGES. When you still refuse to partner with them directly, most of them immediately remove you from their service, and move down the list to the next restaurant.
All in all, we think this is a really sh*tty way to do business, and you have my word that Mirin will never use convenient delivery to exploit you.
TL;DR- please don’t order from us on DoorDash until further notice, that goes for both locations, you can pick carry out food up in store, we love you and hope you love us back, that was a long one and if you read it all, we thank you and love you double.
