Our location has permanently closed. We have a lot to get through, and will make a more detailed statement shortly.

Thanks to everybody who gave us a shot in Southern Indiana.

08/08/2019

We will not be open Thursday, August 8th, as we decide what is what with our restaurant. Very sorry to whoever this inconveniences or bothers.

08/07/2019

Our power went down on Monday, we were closed and didn’t realize. By the time we got it all back up and running, it was too late. We lost all of our food.

We likely won’t be open today, Wednesday the 7th, as we prep everything from scratch. We will resume normal business hours tomorrow.

Sorry.

Okay here’s an informational post that may border on messy so strap in sis because the tea is about to pour.

We have, over the past several days, received several complaints from people who order our food through DoorDash. I want to directly address those complaints right now.

First, we understand that several people are placing orders, then *some time* later, whether it’s 20 minutes or an hour or 2 hours, their order is abruptly canceled and they receive zero food.

Second, we also know that doordash does not offer our entire menu on their site, and we now know that they price it different than we do.

So. Here are a few facts, and then we can get in to the conjecture and grey area.

1. We never asked to be on DoorDash. We do not partner with them, nor do we partner with any third party delivery site. They just started calling us one day and showing up for food. That was fine, until issues arose.

2. These orders being canceled is not *directly* our fault. Over the last week, we have lost several hundred dollars in DoorDash mistakes, several hundred dollars that, until we are directly reimbursed by DoorDash and receive several other assurances, has caused us to effectively end any relationship we have with DoorDash. When they call, we will no longer accept an order from them. So please don’t place an order for our food, through them, until further notice on this page.

Conjecture and Grey Area

While these orders being canceled isn’t *directly* our fault, we will share some responsibility for the issues. We didn’t nip it in the bud quick enough, and that responsibility ultimately falls on me. I could give you a sob story about my personal life or how spread thin I am, but ultimately it is my job to ensure that you, our clientele, have the best experience we are capable of giving, and I failed in that aspect for several of you last week. Please accept my apology.

For those that didn’t know- we DO offer carryout! We package it as best we can. We buy the highest heat quart containers available. They aren’t cheap, I promise. We make a huge effort to keep our foods integrity throughout the entire process- we cool the noodles after they’re cooked, we put all of the cold ingredients in a separate container from the hot ingredients (as shown in the pics) to be sure the noodles don’t get gummy, and so you can reheat effectively (bring broth container to a boil, pour it over the noodle container, figure 8 with the chopsticks, slurp your face off).

*OUR PERSONAL THOUGHTS ON THIRD PARTY DELIVERY SERVICES*

THEY SUUUUUUUUUUUCK. BOOOOOOOOOO.

First, what they do, is add your restaurant to their site, without seeking your consent. After a certain amount of time, they then start soliciting you to “partner with them”, meaning they take a cut of your sales from their site. Usually 20-30%, which any local restaurateur will tell you is WAYYY higher than their profit margin- so, essentially, you have to lose money to be featured on their site. When you raise that concern, they’re ready with an answer- “WELL, what if we raise your prices on the site to offset your losses?”. Essentially, they want to pass the buck not only to you, the consumer, via fees and up-charges, but then take from me, the purveyor, all under the guise that this is somehow a mutually beneficial partnership. When that’s not enough, some of them will even offer to promote your restaurant ON YOUR DIRECT COMPETITORS PAGES. When you still refuse to partner with them directly, most of them immediately remove you from their service, and move down the list to the next restaurant.

All in all, we think this is a really sh*tty way to do business, and you have my word that Mirin will never use convenient delivery to exploit you.

TL;DR- please don’t order from us on DoorDash until further notice, that goes for both locations, you can pick carry out food up in store, we love you and hope you love us back, that was a long one and if you read it all, we thank you and love you double.

We got some REALLY good news this week. Alcohol is coming very, very soon. We know it’s the last piece of our business coming together, and we thank all of our guests who have been patient, and who come out and support us despite our limited beverage options.

🚨 🚨 ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 🚨

Saturday, August 24th at 3pm, we will be holding a fun and informative (if you’re in to information) Sake tasting at the Louisville location. This will give you the opportunity to get a preview of a lot of the Sake we plan to offer at the New Albany location. We are capping this event at 25 people. Tickets will be $45, which will include tastes of an absurd amount of sake, plus a few small bites.

It’s been a tepid start for us in New Albany, and that’s okay. We love seeing more and more of your faces every week, and we can’t wait to start seeing more of you. For increased awareness that we A. Exist and B. Can Cook, if you ‘like’ and share this post, one of you will win 2 tickets to this event (paid for by Griffin)! We’ve done several of these Like and Share contests, and have loved meeting our winners. Maybe the next one will be you!!

Tell your friends! Help us help you help us help you! Remember, nothing on our menu is more than $10!

Wednesday-Saturday, 11am-10pm.

We are having a water issue this AM, so unfortunately we are not currently open. We’re hoping this issue gets cleared up soon, but it is completely out of our hands. Without water we can not run a safe, clean or efficient restaurant- so we’re not going to open until we have it.

We will update this post as soon as we have info on what time we’ll be able to open. Sorry for anybody this inconveniences.

UPDATE: we will open at 3pm today

We’re working our asses off to get you all through the door. We know that’s going to be the toughest part, because we’re confident once you dine with us, you’ll be back.

(Reminder that NOTHING on our menu is over $10 now)

Little contest happening here!

We have gift cards now. LIKE and SHARE this post for a chance to win a $50 gift card.

That’s it. That’s the contest. Make sure your post privacy is set to public for this. If it’s not, I won’t be able to see that you’ve shared it.

If you’ve been following us since it was just the Louisville store, you know we like to change the menu a few times a year.

So- we changed the menu. We loved seeing all of your faces during our “Everything Is $10 Fire Sale” a few weeks ago, so we cooked up this new menu where there are now two categories- things that are $5. And things that are $10.

That’s it. Those are the prices. You’ll choose a thing, or a few things, and each thing will either be $5. Or it will be $10.

Here’s the new menu, and a few items so you have an idea of how far your dollars are about to go.

Updated hours- Wednesday-Saturday, 11am-10pm.

P.S. just got off the phone with the Indiana ATC- BOOZE IS COMING SOON!!!!

So we are uhhhh.... having a little trouble keeping up 😂 small note for tomorrow (Saturday)-

We are opening at Noon instead of 11. Sorry! We love you all and these are the best problems.

05/31/2019

So.... holy hell? New Albany SHOWED OUT for us tonight. That was the busiest day we’ve ever had, including the Louisville location, which has been open THREE YEARS and is thriving.

I can’t thank you all enough.

Unfortunately we are now out of food for the night 😂 we believe in striving for the highest standard, and we would rather turn you away than serve you sub par broth. Which is where this night would go if we continued.

We will be prepared tomorrow (Friday), and we will be ready to GO.

Thank you all sooooooooooo freaking much. It was so nice to meet some of you personally, and serve you food. We love our friends in New Albany- we have personally known Eric at Hull and Highwater, Ian at Exchange and etc., Joe at Pints & Union, Stacy at Roadrunner, the Bass family at MESA- the list goes on and on. Everybody has been so great to us and we are very much looking forward to meeting the rest of you!

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you all for being so welcoming, kind and wonderful.

We’re still learning about Indiana. Few things!

1. We’re trying to get involved in different organizations, events, meet more people, etc.. So! If you have an event, please tell us how we can get involved. If we can, we *will*. You can stop by and chat in person, call us, or send a message to this page.

2. Our menu is changing next week. We’re still figuring out what does and does not work for the New Albany community. We aren’t getting rid of everything, just altering some stuff, trying some new things out, etc.

3. It’s not been a sweltering start business wise, and we’re at a bit of a crossroads. None of us, not me, not my chefs, not my FOH staff are built to throw in the towel, so we aren’t. We decided we’re investing back in to the restaurant, and, for that reason, and the reasons listed above, I would like to inform you all that, when you mention this post, everything on the menu that is over $10 will cost $10 this week. Spicy Double- $10. Tonkotsu- $10. Burger- $10. Chicken Fourplay- $10. You name it. If it costs more than $10, it is now TEN DOLLARS. If you haven’t tried our food yet, this is the week to do it! If you have and you want a good deal- this is the week to do it! If you hate us and hope we die sad, alone, and full of regrets- come rip us off this week, because we are literally going to make zero dollars on menu items regularly priced over ten dollars (all of which, I will remind you, are TEN DOLLARS THIS WEEK). That’s 100 dimes. 1000 pennies. 200 nickels. 191.3 pesos.

Thanks for reading!
