Our second band playing at 6:00 (I ♥️ Neihart festival, music behind Bob’s Bar, Sept 6th) is The Last National Band. “The Last National Band was formed in the spring of 2025 in Great Falls, MT, by long time musical partners Dan McKay and Alan Korslien. Dan and Alan have been playing together since the early 90's as the duo "Blackbird", connected by their shared love of the Beatles and traditional bluegrass music, emphasizing tight vocal harmonies and unique song arrangements. After many years of talking about fleshing out a full band, we finally got with it last spring, and drafted two journeyman Montana players make that happen. Darin Lee joins us on drums and Grant Stebbins rips it up on base and vocals. Both Darin and Grant bring a wealth of experience to the group, and share the same love of these classic tunes. On Sunday, September 6th, for our first performance at I ♥️ Neihart (4:00 pm), we have Bruce Anfinson. (There is NO cover charge thanks to amazing sponsors!) Bruce grew up in Great Falls and graduated in 1972 from CM Russell so some of you went to school with him. He now lives in Helena at his Last Chance Ranch.

He is described as “he isn’t just a musician; he’s a musical storyteller. His songs are rooted in the land, shaped by lived experiences, and are often served with a wink or a tender nod to life’s unpredictable journey. Whether he’s singing “Handmade Saddle,” which tells the story of him tracking down one of his late father’s handmade saddles and finally getting to bring it home after it was raffled off twenty years prior, or “The Ballad of Minnie and Pearl,” a song that captures his time working with his cherished draught horses, skinning logs, and running them through the saw mill to build his barn, Bruce taps into a deep emotional well. His songs reflect both the humor and hardship of the West. Here’s one of my favorite dads (Rory Klaue) at Bob’s Bar doing one of the things that dad’s do best: being silly!
