We thought that our friends might enjoy the following famous poem, to which one may or may not wish to add: 1) Learn history through a variety of verified sources, and 2) The planet Earth is but a single speck of sand on the beaches of the Universe. ❤

ABOUT HOTEL NAUVOO, MOTEL NAUVOO, AND OUR HEALTH-RELATED RETIREMENT:

Since the early 1900s, our family has owned numerous properties and operated various businesses in Nauvoo. Years ago, in preparation for our health-related retirement, we began winding down business operations, including those of Hotel Nauvoo and Motel Nauvoo.

We intentionally-limited lodging operations at the Hotel and Motel by greatly reducing front-desk presence. We also chose not to accept online booking, we limited the switchboard to just several hours per day, and we even closed on Sundays. Essentially, booking inquiries went unanswered most of the time.

Dining hours at the Hotel were also intentionally-limited to just two days per week, and only three and one-half hours on each of those two days. Our dining rooms were closed five days per week.

Still, the Hotel and Motel ended calendar year 2025 with a gross income of just under $1,100,000.00. However, because we believe that our intentionally-limited operations are not representative of full value or profit potential, none of our properties are offered with benefit of further financials.

We strongly encourage potential buyer(s) to conduct an individual assessment of property values based upon location, condition, square footage, included furnishings, included equipment, included supplies, any included adjacent property, possible deferred return on investments, and any other observable economic factors.

Of interest to the long-term investor, the Nauvoo Historic District is a National Historic landmark, designated in 1961, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. According to the National Park Service, the site contains about 1,100 acres of authentically restored homes, shops, and natural beauty, attracting thousands of visitors annually. It is managed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS).

The Church now owns a very significant portion of real estate in Nauvoo, which has been aggressively expanding and developing. There are over 40 meticulously-restored homes and sites, the massive newly-reconstructed-Temple, and nearing completion is a very impressive new visitors center, sitting high above the sprawling restoration area and the Mississippi River.


It has been publicly-reported that in 2024 alone, the Church spent $192.5 million to acquire historic properties and artifacts, much of it in Nauvoo. The Church is also publicly reported to be among the largest private land owners in the United States and is highly-respected for its responsible long-term property-management.

RETIREMENT / Gift Card balance refunds

In the Biblical Old Testament Book of Ecclesiastes, the author writes in Chapter 3, verse 1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the Heavens”.

Over the past 77+ years, each and every one of you have become friends and “family”. Ours has been, and remains, a human endeavor, comprised of individuals working together for the sake of all. Saying “thank you from the bottom of our hearts” seems insufficient, but it is nonetheless very sincere.

In keeping with longstanding tradition, we recently closed for the season, but “Mother Nature” and “Father Time” have told us that a different kind of season is already upon us, and that we should prepare for retirement and focus on health. More details will be provided soon, but we wanted you to know first that we are not planning to reopen next year.

As with everything in life, we don’t know exactly what the future will hold, but we trust that the Almighty will guide all of us along the way.
