Blackberry, fig, ricotta, basil mint vin, honey, on sourdough toast — these ingredients bring back fond memories.

Part of my childhood was spent in Augusta, GA. My favorite tree to climb was a giant fig tree (like the second photo) which I fell out of and pin-balled through far too often.

My family is from Chattanooga. We used to take four-wheelers onto TVA property and pick blackberries while keepin’ an eye out for snakes.

TOMATO SEASON! My granddad and other farmers have told me that cat faced tomatoes have the best flavor (no scientific evidence). So, I’ve always chosen the gnarly heirloom maters. Come get some on sourdough!

Most of you know it as Cucumber Salad. I call it Summer’s Cure or Garden Gatorade | the way I learned it from my granddad on his farm was—cucumber, tomato, red onion, white vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar, ice. I added fresh basil and substituted mirin for the sugar. Also, my granddad never used small maters.
