It’s hard to find the words for a loss like this.

JP Medina was much more than the person behind Smökd BBQ. Before Big Eddy ever opened its doors, JP believed in what we were building and took a chance on us, making our kitchen his home and introducing so many people to his incredible food. What started as a business relationship quickly became a friendship—and, before long, JP, Sarah, and his parents became an everlasting and all important part of the Big Eddy family.

Even after JP moved Smökd down the road and built the standalone business he always dreamed of, nothing changed between us. He remained a great friend, and we remained some of his biggest fans—of his food, his work, and the way he poured himself into everything he did.

Losing JP at just 41 is heartbreaking and still feels impossible to comprehend. We will miss his laugh, his friendship, his food, and simply having him around.

Our hearts are with Sarah, his parents, his family, his friends, and everyone who was lucky enough to know JP.

Thank you for being part of our story, JP. We’re incredibly grateful you were part of ours. The memories we were blessed enough to share will do their very best to fill the holes in our hearts left behind.

Rest easy, brother. ❤️

We’ve decided that maybe weekly Bingo is a little too much for our small-town crowd. So, for now, we’re putting Thursday night Bingo on pause.

But don’t worry—we’ve got more fun up our sleeves. 🍻
