In late 1941 a naming contest was held and President Roosevelt recommended to Senator W.C. Chambers his choice to let this hotel be the first hotel in the USA to be named after General MacArthur. Several famous people have made the trip to hunt and fish in the picturesque mountains and streams. John Wayne, Audie Murphy, Mickey Mantle and Michael Landon are among the most notable. Now after years of neglect and disrepair, the hotel has been completely restored.
