At 7:00 AM on the morning of November 10, 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald - a "weather ship" which regularly sent out weather reports - sent her last weather report:
Winds are 35 knots (40 mph) and waves are 10 feet.
This indicates that weather conditions had slightly improved throughout the night - perhaps offering Captain McSorley and the running mate they gained overnight (the S.S. Arthur M. Anderson) an optimistic outlook for the day. Unfortunately, only one vessel and crew would live through to the end of it.
The pair of ships would be taking the northerly route across Lake Superior. They'd head towards Ontario, then south past Michipicoten Island and Caribou Island towards Whitefish Point. At their current speed, the Edmund Fitzgerald would be in Whitefish Bay by 7 or 7:30 that night.

The Muskegon Maritime Historical Society is proud to share our inaugural social media post and to introduce the level of passion and enthusiasm we will bring to the maritime history community. To mark our launch, we present a major new documentary produced by one of our board members:
EDMUND FITZGERALD: The Full Story 50th Anniversary.
This documentary, produced by TOM LYNSKEY for his YouTube channel "PART-TIME EXPLORER" combines meticulous archival research, eyewitness interviews, museum access at Whitefish Point and regional collections, and detailed digital reconstructions to illuminate the Fitzgerald’s construction, service, final voyage, recovered artifacts, and lasting legacy. It models the standards of scholarship, sensitive commemoration, and storytelling that the Muskegon Maritime Historical Society will also endeavor to promote and produce.

Effective immediately, The Soda Bowl is cutting all ties with the SS Milwaukee Clipper’s management company: Milwaukee Clipper Preservation, Incorporated.

Unfortunately, the happy times and huge smiles had aboard the ship at our ice cream shop have come to an abrupt end. We hope to open at a nearby location next summer with our unique 1940s ice cream parlor vibes!

(Please note: the ship’s management company may still operate something from their location using our logo from this season. We will be reverting back to our original logo to avoid legal conflicts.)
