Happy Juneteenth!✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻✊ Happy Freedom Day! Happy Jubilee Day! Today, on this deserving federal holiday, we honor & recognize the emancipation of enslaved African Americans across the United States. This day in 1865 specifically commemorates when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Juneteenth is the symbolic date representing freedom! And while we celebrate, there is far more work to be done to usher in justice within civil and human rights for Black/African-Americans. Systems in our country designed to negatively impact Black/African-Americans are still oppressing economically & financially, within educational opportunities, corporate and small business equity, housing, and healthcare, just to name a few.
