Today is Mah Jongg Day at Small Town Scoop & Eatery!

Whether you’re an experienced player, just learning, or have never played before, you’re invited to come join the fun! No experience necessary, and we have Mah Jongg sets here, so all you need to bring is yourself.

Come by around 11:30 for lunch and a little time to visit and make some new friends. Might we suggest our super-tasty Quiche Lorraine & Side Salad combo? Then the tiles hit the tables and gameplay begins at 12:30!

And, of course, every good game needs an ice cream break. A scoop of our homemade Chai Spiced Cookie ice cream seems particularly appropriate on a fall afternoon.

Good food, great ice cream, new friends, and a few rounds of Mah Jongg. Sounds like a pretty great way to spend a Wednesday afternoon at Scoop!

And if you can’t make it today, don’t worry! Mah Jongg at Scoop is happening every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of the month.

There’s no charge to participate. We are located at 1400 Walnut St in Murphysboro. Come play with us!

From the beginning, Leigh-Ann and I have dreamed of hosting gatherings at Scoop that help people connect. We love the idea of neighbors pulling up a chair, sharing a meal or an activity, and leaving with a new friend. We’re excited to make more room for that with three regular meetups at Small Town Scoop & Eatery!

Mah Jongg | 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays - next one is tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30!
Arrive at 11:30 a.m. to chat, meet folks, and enjoy lunch if you’d like. Gameplay runs from 12:30 to about 3 p.m. We have sets available, so there’s no need to bring anything, though you’re welcome to bring your own. There’s no charge to play, and everyone is welcome!

Knitting by the fire | Every Monday at 11:30 a.m.
Bring your knitting project, pull up a chair, and enjoy tea, coffee, lunch, and good company. Come share a few stitches and a few stories. If you lose count while chatting, you’ll be among friends!

Grownup coloring | Every Saturday, noon to 2 p.m.
Adulting is hard. Come set the to-do list aside, eat something yummy, and color with friends. Bring your own coloring books and supplies, or use some of the books and crayons we’ll have here.

Whether you come for one gathering or all three, we hope you’ll feel welcome here. We can’t wait to see the friendships that grow around these tables.

Hello, Murphysboro!

Today kicks off the world-famous Praise the Lard Barbecue Cook-Off!

We wish all the teams the best of luck. May your briskets be tasty, your ribs be delicious...and hopefully some of them end up in our tummies!

And since it’s Praise the Lard weekend, we thought we’d get in on the BBQ fun the Small Town Scoop & Eatery way—with ICE CREAM!

We’ve created two meat-inspired flavors for the weekend:

First up — MAPLE BACON ICE CREAM!

Creamy maple ice cream made with real maple syrup and brown sugar, then loaded with pieces of candied bacon for the perfect sweet & savory combination.

Next — SWEET CORNBREAD ICE CREAM!

Stay with us here...

Creamy, all-natural ice cream made with freshly baked cornbread and sweet corn, creating a rich, buttery flavor with just the right touch of sweetness. It sounds a little crazy. It tastes AMAZING.

And finally...the pinnacle of our Praise the Lard creations:

THE SWEET CORNBREAD & CANDIED BRISKET SUNDAE!

This thing is so delicious, it might just knock your socks off.

We start with our Sweet Cornbread Ice Cream and top it with hot caramel sauce, maple syrup and a light dusting of Pat’s BBQ Sweet n Spicy Rub. Then comes the star of the show—beef brisket from Pat’s BBQ that we’ve candied for the perfect sweet, smoky, savory topping.

We finish the whole thing with our house-made whipped cream and one final sprinkle of that Sweet n Spicy Rub.

Believe us...if putting meat on a sundae is wrong, we don’t want to be right.

And a HUGE THANK YOU to Pat's BBQ and Catering for providing us with the brisket and their Sweet n Spicy Rub to help us create this crazy-delicious sundae! We love getting to team up with another local business and have a little fun for Praise the Lard weekend!

Happy Tuesday!!! The weather is starting to cool down, and suddenly a warm slice of Quiche Lorraine sounds like a very good idea.

Buttery crust, rich egg custard, bacon, cheese...basically everything you want in a cozy lunch without having to make it yourself. We’ll handle the baking. You just have to show up hungry. Our quiche comes with a side salad, Caesar or House, as you wish.

Stop in and grab a slice today! And while you’re here, you may as well make lunch complete. Don’t forget the ice cream!

Good morning, everyone!

Whew… what a week! After an incredible Apple Festival week (and a much-needed day to recuperate and recharge), WE’RE BACK today!

With Apple Festival behind us, that means fall is officially settling in at Small Town Scoop & Eatery! We’re moving to our fall hours, so we’ll be closing just a little earlier each day. BUT on Murphysboro home football nights, we’re keeping the lights on later! This Friday, September 18, we’ll be open until 11 PM, so stop in after the game for ice cream, food, Lotus drinks, or a late-night treat!

And speaking of Apple Festival… apparently you’re not quite ready to let it go yet! We’ve had SO MANY requests that we’ve decided to keep our Apple Festival food specials going through this week, while supplies last!

HARVEST TURKEY SANDWICH
Turkey, creamy brie, bacon, fresh Jonathan apples and apple butter from Mileur Orchards, spring mix, all pressed together on our panini bread.

HARVEST APPLE SALAD
Spring mix topped with fresh chopped Jonathan apples, candied pecans, crumbled goat cheese, craisins, and our honey mustard dressing.

So if you didn’t get your fill last week, or you’ve been thinking about that sandwich ever since you had it, you’ve got another chance!

Good morning! We had a big ol’ week and really a big ol’ day yesterday, and we can’t thank everybody enough for the patronage and all the support. This was, hands-down, the biggest week ever in Small Town Scoop & Eatery’s history, and the love we felt is real! We are so proud to serve our community, and we’re so thankful you are enjoying our little shop!

But, we’re tired. And ouchy.

To give our team a well-deserved break, we will be closed today, Sunday, September 13. But we will be back at it tomorrow morning at 11am! We love you all, and again, we thank you so much for letting us be a part of your Apple Festival experience, and part of the rich fabric of Murphysboro. Happy Sunday!
