Good morning on this beautiful Friday!
Exciting things are happening at Liberty’s Station and one thing that I am especially excited for is a new social skills gaming program we will be soft-launching soon! We will be hosting weekly tabletop roleplaying sessions with a focus on team building using a brand new Lego based game system (cool right?!) called “Epic Brick Adventures”!
Epic Brick Adventures is an approachable tabletop role-playing game similar in style to games like Dungeons & Dragons, but with a significantly simpler system that makes it easier for new players to jump in, create characters, make decisions, solve problems, and build a story together. Each game is kind of like a medium length improv scene with players interacting with each other in real time and responding to in-game events determined by the game master. And yes, there absolutely will be chances during the sessions to build things with Lego and use them in game!
While the sessions will definitely be fun, the purpose goes much deeper than simply playing a game. Participants will work on important skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, social engagement, flexibility, and navigating disagreements or unexpected challenges. These are skills that can make a real difference in the workplace, in relationships, and throughout everyday life. At Libertys Station, we understand that there is not a one size fits all to how people learn best and so this is another way that they can grow those skills to prepare them for employment and greater independence in a non-traditional way.
Because this is a new program, our initial launch will only be open to current Liberty’s Station interns. This will give us an opportunity to learn what works, make adjustments, and create the best experience possible for everyone involved.
As interest grows and the program becomes smoother and more established, our hope is to eventually open it to past interns as well as other individuals with special needs who are looking for a fun and supportive way to grow their social skills.
If you or an intern in your care may be interested, please scan the QR code on the attached flyer or follow this link- https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdO0eroZ62sjiCTmBuEtsyIe6_tLITQFP1qCftDOqwuhY1Xcg/viewform . This will take you to a short Google Form where you can let us know which potential dates work best and submit any questions you may have about the program.
We’re excited to begin this adventure and see where the story takes us!
P.S. once again, shoutout to Christian for his amazing work and help making this flyer! Great job buddy!
