To all small businesses out there, we see you and YOU ARE doing AMAZING work. You do so much so well, create vibrancy while you nurture and nourish your community along with enlivening the neighborhoods you are part of with your presence. And it’s like a sunny Seattle day when your community shows you LOVE; one day of glorious sunshine making up for days and days of grey and rain like one person helping you know, in your truest heart, that you are needed and you are supported when they make time to walk through your doors. THANK YOU to all who make it their mission to support small and local. You are seen and SO greatly appreciated.
It takes intentionality for a small business to show up each day. And not to simply be open but to show up with presence and gratitude for those who show up for them. It’s a lesson in humility and a moment by moment practice when you let your work be your message—that you believe in helping cultivate community in a world where people often feel so disconnected from one another.
It can be truly disheartening too, when what you have or what you do, how you do it or how much you charge is misunderstood at the very least or shouted about via social channels at the very most. Every small business is doing the best it can with what it is capable of. Most who don’t have no idea what it takes to run a small business; what it takes to simply become a business, to prepare or create the item they put in front of their customers, for the business to simply survive let alone thrive with rising rent, utilities and triple N, to COGS and labor. From thin margins and repairs, economic downturns and the ease of ordering online, to price increases for ingredients needed and fuel to get it to them. It’s a balancing act that can sometimes feel out of balance.
So, please know, if you own a small business we are SO GRATEFUL to you and for what you bring to your small corner of the world. If you are blessed enough to have small businesses in your neighborhood, please visit them, talk about them, share their posts and stories, write a review on Google. Do your very best to keep them alive with the hopes of them one day thriving. ❤️ Thank you.
