2023 Jolie-Laide, Trousseau Gris, Fanucchi Wood Road, Sonoma County, CA

Jolie-Laide is a husband and wife team located in Sonoma, California. Jolie-Laide is a French term of endearment which means “beautiful-ugly” or “unconventionally beautiful.” The labels for their 2023 wines were all created by artists from a non-profit art center in Oakland with developmental disabilities. The range and almost extinct Trousseau Gris vines were planted in the late 1970’s, and experience extremely volatile yields from vintage to vintage. The fruit is picked early, foot stomped, and while cluster cold soaked for three days prior to neutral puncheon and stainless steel fermentation. The result is a beautiful golden hue, with a creamy and decadent mouthfeel without the manipulation of oak or malolactic fermentation. Flavors of peach yogurt and summer melon jump out of the glass, and the result is absolutely delicious!
