Dear Ripe Aficionados & Foodies,
Picture this.
Outside, the sky looks like that heavy
end of days purple from a school daze
black eye fight.
The first thick, cold drops of a massive Nor’easter are starting to lash the pavement, and everyone
out there is miserable, bracing themselves
for a brutal weekend.
But you roll up to Ripe,
step inside, and the chill in the air gets
checked right at the door.
It is pure, balmy Caribbean summer in here.
You walk into the dining room, and the
first thing you see are our
full-length French glass doors
framing a view that shouldn’t exist
in New York right now.
You’re looking straight out at our tropical paradise—lush hibiscus trees, vibrant green flora, and thick bamboo swaying under the downpour.
It gives you that exact, unmistakable
island rain on a tin roof feeling.
You get the raw drama of the storm right in
front of your face, but you’re rum-ly warm, insulated, intoxicated and completely
untouched by it.

It is still your birthday.
A low-pressure system doesn’t get to
