There is much to celebrate this weekend!

The Farm Store is open Saturday 9am-12pm. You’ll find a lot of great local veg (cucumbers, kale, chard, garlic scapes, herbs), snacks and pantry goods inside. We’re serving up burritos, pancakes, and baked goods all morning. Dahlia tubers are on mega-sale and there are still native plants, herbs, and a few varieties of vegetable starts for your garden.

See ya at the Farm Store or the Iowa City Farmers Market Saturday morning! The flowers are summery and delightful, the produce is just-picked, the strawberries are limited, the food is delicious, the native plants are still here, the dahlia tubers are on sale for one more weekend, the vibes are good. Jeremy Jeremy Wilhelm will be bringing lamb cuts to the Iowa City Farmers Market tomorrow, too! Flowers and lamb at the IC market, all the other goods are at the Farm Store.

A few weeks ago we planted 400 kale plants and I took a poll to see if you thought we were crazy or making the right decision. Okay it was actually phrased as “do you like kale” and 98% of you issued an enthusiastic yes. So now I need you all to come through with that enthusiasm and come get kale from us!

Fresh produce at the Farm Store, June 11-13:
- Our farm (certified organic) - curly kale, lacinato kale, red Russian kale, collard greens, salad mix, garlic scapes, spearmint, sage, lemon thyme, edible flowers
- Abbe Hills Produce lettuce, cucumbers, and basil
- Morning Glory STRAWBERRIES 🍓🍓🍓 and rhubarb
- Onion Grove carrots and potatoes

We have great food on the menu this weekend featuring local strawberries, chicken from Grimm Family Farm, and lamb from Jeremy Wilhelm. We will set up seating under the covered carport and our food can always be taken to go!

June Flower CSA Week 2 🌸

This is the time of year when our perennial flowers really start to pull through, bridging the gap between our tunnel-grown spring flowers and our field-grown summer annuals. Bouquets this week feature yarrow, raspberry leaf, campanula, veronica, rudbeckia, the ephemeral dahlia, and a few stalks of our winter rye cover crop for a little extra sparkle 🌾

It’s very fun to put together these specially curated bouquets for our CSA members. There’s still time to join our July, August, September, and Dahlia shares, though we are nearing capacity on all of them so don’t wait too long to sign up 🌸

The fruits (flowers) of our labor! How fun are these bouquets?! The featured flowers this week are campanula, dianthus, snapdragons, bupleurum, dahlias(!), and our new fav flower Veronica that adds so much sparkle and whimsy. Plus, a few sweet pea bunches that smell so so so good.

Get your flower fix at the Saturday morning 7:30-12pm and our Farm Store in Mt Vernon, open 9-12. We’ll have the very first 🍓🍓🍓 strawberries 🍓🍓🍓 and a lot of beautiful lettuce, herbs, and fresh produce at the Farm Store. Our 🌱 last chance 🌱 plant sale is happening at the farm only (no plants heading to Iowa City). We’re serving up some breakfast burritos and strawberry-rhubarb parfaits.

Last call for plants, y’all! Get them this weekend before they’re no longer available! This weekend is the last chance to get vegetable and herb starts. We’ll have native plants around for a few more weeks but this is the final weekend for sale prices and bulk discounts. Swipe through for an updated list of what we have available.

All starts will be at our Farm Store only (we will not have them at the Iowa City Farmer’s Market). Make a trip up to the farm to shop for plants, eat some food, and hang out!

🥪 Food at the Flower Farm 🌯 we’ve got good eats for you every Thursday evening and Saturday morning!

Chef Savana has been making some exceptionally tasty meals over the last two months and her baked goods are 🔥🔥🔥. Our menus change weekly to feature in-season produce and delicious ingredients from our farm and regional food businesses. We always have gluten-free and vegetarian friendly options and prioritize using organic ingredients when possible. Come on by to enjoy some food on our patio, bring a blanket to picnic on the lawn, or swing through to grab food to go.

If anyone tells you the straw is seed free… you better confirm that for yourself before you lay it out! Lessons learned. The Rhu Crew knocked out an excellent w**ding session and saved the garlic from getting taken over by oat straw. Of course, we had to save the self-seeded chamomile to harvest before it too gets w**ded out eventually. Lots and lots of garlic and garlic scapes incoming soon, which also means the return of ’s infamous Garlic Scape Chimichurri 🤤. We’re growing many different certified organic herbs and vegetables at the home farm and many are nearing their harvest date - find ‘em all in the Farm Store throughout the season!
