There are a whole lot more of you here than the last time we introduced ourselves, so hi. 👋🏼☕️

We’re Kye + Laura — the husband and wife behind First Sip Coffee Roasters.

Kye is the actual coffee roaster around here. Laura does… approximately everything else 😂 and is currently canning lattes like crazy.

And those two cute little people you see here are our mini coffee lovers, helpers, taste testers and occasional employees. (Yes, they like coffee. No, we will not be taking questions at this time. 🤣)

But First Sip actually started way before we ever planned on having a coffee business.

Back in 2016, we lived in Charlotte and toured a coffee roasting facility. Before that, we barely even drank coffee because we’d never found any we really loved.

Then we tasted good coffee.

And unfortunately for everyone around us, we became coffee snobs almost immediately. 😂

Kye became fascinated with the whole process — different beans, origins, roasting methods, brewing techniques… all of it.

Then 2020 happened.

There were no sports on TV, we were sitting at home with entirely too much time on our hands, and Kye started researching coffee roasters.

Laura basically said, “You should just try it.”

So he bought a tiny 4 oz roaster and started roasting coffee in our garage.

And somehow that tiny roaster turned into neighbors buying coffee… then a bigger roaster… then pop-ups… then an even BIGGER roaster… and eventually us deciding that apparently selling roasted coffee wasn’t enough fun, so we started making canned lattes too.

And here we are.

Still roasting. Still learning. Still growing. Still very much figuring things out as we go.

We’re really glad you’re here for it. 🤍

☕ Coffee Fact of the Day

Freshly roasted coffee is at its best after it has had a little time to rest. During the first few days after roasting, coffee naturally releases carbon dioxide, a process called degassing. For most coffees, the sweetest, most balanced flavors develop about 2-5 days after roasting.

That’s why we roast in small batches and ship fresh, so every cup has the chance to taste its very best.
