Welfare check reveals grandma’s caretaker was a chimpanzee. Police doing a welfare check on a 95-year-old woman thought they’d find her alone. Instead, the door swung open to a chimpanzee grinning at them.
For four days, the woman believed her great-grandson had finally come to visit, dropping off food outside her door, placing snacks on her dresser, and keeping her comfortable while she stayed in bed watching TV.
“I wasn’t worried at all,” she said. “I thought it was just my grandson looking after me.”
Only after the chimp was safely taken back to the zoo did she realize the truth: she’d been fed on a zoo schedule apples, bananas, granola bars, even bottled water delivered at the exact times the chimp had been trained to eat
