The Burger Challenge was so much more than a competition - it was an incredible real-world learning experience for our students from start to finish.
Now in its 3rd year, this year’s challenge was our biggest one yet, with more burgers sold than ever before!
Throughout the project, students explored flavor profiles, created original burger concepts, tested recipes through multiple trials, and presented their final products to C.J. and Stacey at The Fireside. Once the burgers were selected, the work didn’t stop there. Students learned how food, business, marketing, and creativity all connect in the real world.
They wrote burger descriptions, created social media content, designed menu inserts and TV graphics, produced radio ads, photographed their burgers, hung posters around town, and even created backpack stuffers that went home with elementary students in our school and surrounding communities. Every part of this challenge was student-driven.
Watching students take an idea from concept to final product - and then market it to the community - has been such an incredible experience. They gained hands-on experience in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, branding, food photography, customer engagement, and entrepreneurship along the way.
We are so proud of the creativity, professionalism, and hard work these students showed throughout the entire process.
And to our amazing community - thank you. Thank you to The Fireside, our local newspaper, radio station, the marketing department at Superior, the Morris Area Schools Foundation for supporting our program with photography lighting equipment, and Ms. Peper for helping students learn food photography techniques and how to capture professional-quality photos.
Most importantly, thank you to every single person who supported this project by sharing posts, encouraging students, and purchasing burgers throughout the month.
Your support helped make this experience authentic, meaningful, and unforgettable for our students. We truly could not have done it without you.
