In the coming days, you’ll begin to see that Mel’s Downtown is officially for sale. After 23 years, it’s finally time for Mel to retire and begin a new chapter.
We know those words may feel a little bittersweet.
For 23 years, Mel’s has been so much more than a restaurant. It has been a little piece of home. It has been the place where our kids grew up, where we watched little ones come in holding their parents’ hands and, before we knew it, return years later with families of their own.
We’ve watched faces come and go. We’ve watched generations grow up around our tables. We’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, first dates, family dinners, and ordinary Tuesdays that somehow became memories.
We’ve watched friendships begin, old friends reunite, and neighbors become family.
For so many years, Mel’s has been a gathering place and, in many ways, the heart of our community. It’s where people came to eat, but they stayed to talk. It’s where you could walk in and almost always see someone you knew.
And while seeing the words “for sale” may make you wonder what happens next, we want to make one thing very clear:
This is NOT a goodbye. ❤️
We are not suddenly closing our doors. We are not walking away overnight. Finding the right person to take over Mel’s is a process, and that process will take time.
So there is still time.
Time to come in for your favorite meal.
Time to use that gift card you’ve been saving.
Time to sit at your favorite table.
Time to bring your kids or your grandkids.
Time to catch up with an old friend over coffee.
Time to make a few more memories.
Because while the future may eventually look different, the memories made here will always belong to this community.
After 23 years, there are far too many stories, faces, laughs, and memories to fit into one post. But we hope you know just how much it has meant to be a part of your lives, and to have you be a part of ours.
We don’t know exactly what the next chapter will look like, but we are incredibly grateful for every chapter that brought us here.
So don’t say goodbye just yet.
