My heart breaks as I write this post. This is certainly not how we wanted the summer to end. Unfortunately, we will not be open tomorrow. We had planned to be open bright and early to bring you coffee, ice cream and your favorite icees. However, we experienced a break-in at the Hut that not only was devastating financially but caused significant damage to the building.
As most of you know, the Icee Hut has graced the Pinecrest Plaza for many, many years. When our family purchased the business a few years ago we worked to restore the original building because we wanted to keep the experience as nostalgic as possible. We wanted you to be able to bring your kids to the Hut and the experience be exactly as it was when you were a kid. Due to the age of the building there were not many hits she could take... And the literal hit she took this time was just too much.
Our family is heartbroken. This business was a labor of love that we took on in the midst of a Pandemic and built into something we are all so proud of. We have bonded as a family over everything from painting and restoring the building to creating a fun menu. Our boys have learned the finer points of business and experienced the benefits of hardwork. This place is just as much theirs as it is mine and my husband's. It is a true family business.
The person who busted down our door, damaged our building, and cleaned out our register -- clearly didn't understand that those they were taking from would be more than willing to help them in anyway we could. The Hut has never been a mission to make money for us as family. It has been an opportunity to make others smile and to bring some positivity to our community. It has been about being creative, bonding as a family, and teaching our children the value of hardwork. It has been about building a community of customers that have become dear friends.
AND it WILL continue to be about all of these things! What I learned today is that what this business is has nothing to do with the building we are in but has everything to with the love we put in to what we do. WE LOVE ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS! Each and everyone of you. We are so thankful for what you have allowed us to do these past few years! You have allowed us to make our little dreams reality and we could never fully express how thankful we are. We may look a little different in the future but we WILL be back! Until then though... We will be set up selling all your icee favs at the Morehead Arts and Crafts Festival on September 16th and at the Harvest Festival on October 27th and 28th!! Also message us for information about having the Hut at your private events!
Once again, we love you all!
