Hang tight to all of our locally owned business, they are they heart of the community ❤️
Running a small business, specifically a bookstore, is far different than any other job we’ve ever had. It’s rewarding in a way that we’ve never experienced at work before. Sure, it has its challenges - the difficulties inherent, especially now, to operating a locally-owned small business and community space. There are days filled with hardship and strife that make you, however briefly, stop and reconsider the entire endeavor.
But those days pale in comparison to the days that make you think, “Yes - I am exactly where I am supposed to be.” Days like yesterday (and Friday) where we watched the people of our community come out in droves to support the small businesses in their communities, our own included. Where we got to bear witness to our store serving the purpose for which it was designed - bringing people together to share in their love of books and the act of reading.
This past weekend we watched families gather, from both near and far, and choose our store as a place to spend their time. We saw old friends stumble across one another, faces alight with love and recognition. We saw mothers and daughters and fathers and sons speaking of their favorite books with the passion and awe that only the written word can inspire. And we saw our bookselllers, hard at work bringing their knowledge and passion and creativity to serving our customers and community. We saw them engaged in conversation, sharing smiles and laughter and putting every ounce of their energy into crafting the positive and memorable experiences that our customers have grown to love.
All this is to say the words that will never truly express how we feel about this community and all it has given us - thank you. We would not be here without each and every one of you that has walked through our doors - and the many of you who have done so again and again (sometimes even doing us the honor of sharing our store with your friends and family). Our business may be small - but our impact has spread far beyond 248 North Main and that is because of you all and the community of Downtown Mooresville and beyond that has served us so well.
Happiest of holidays to you and yours!
