Royal Bavaria was founded November 20th, 1992 by Jörg Kühne, a businessman from Munich, Germany. His idea was to bring a Bavarian brew pub to Oklahoma with an authentic atmosphere, true Bavarian hospitality and the typical German cuisine, which has found so many friends all over the world. A 5.5 acre property was located very quickly, and soon the project was approved by the City of Moore. In the
southeast corner of Moore on highway 77/Sooner Road, the groundbreaking took place in August 1993. After the customary 5 week time had passed, according to an old custom, the topping out ceremony took place. The 8 barrel brew house, supplied by HRH, Prince Luitpold of Bavaria, was integrated into the 5000 sqf building by the end of November. Many people felt the location of the restaurant was a little odd as it was built in the middle of the country with no other businesses around and only a handful of farmhouses. Jörg's reasoning for the location was it was half way between Norman and Oklahoma City, and since the building was built to look like a Bavarian farmhouse, he believe it needed to be built in the country since that's where true Bavarian farmhouse are located. Early in January 1994, the executive chef, Andy Gmeiner (also a native of Munich), arrived from Germany to supervise the complete installment of the kitchen. He then created the menu and hired and trained his culinary team. The Grand Opening of this beautiful brewpub in the style of a typical Bavarian farmhouse was celebrated January 28th, 1994 with an exquisite 7-course dinner of German specialties for 180 invited guests. In the beginning, the brewery was operated by Bavarian Brew Masters from Germany. Jörg & Karin Kühne started brewing the famous beers of Royal Bavaria in the summer of 1996. The outdoor beergarten, set in a huge tree shaded area that currently seats 175 people was opened with a great festival in July 1994. In 2007, after 14 years under the lead of the founder, the restaurant and brewery was sold to Andy Gmeiner. As the new owner, his pledge is to continue to operate Royal Bavaria, Restaurant & Brewery under the founders original idea through his knowledge and good spirit.
