I was scrolling through old pictures on the page - kind of reminiscing about the last 10 + years of God's grace as He has continued to provide for and sustain this coffee roasting business.
I rolled across this picture. I took it on a visit to The Voice of the Martyrs in 2016. It was explained to us at that time that the pastor pictured in the photo was from northern India. He would ride his bike from village to village, beating his drum to get attention. When people came out to him, he would proclaim the gospel to them.
We were told that often times, people would hear the gospel message and come to faith in Christ. Other times, he would be beaten and dragged out of the village in response. He was asked what how he would react to these times of rejection and persecution. He responded that he would simply get on his bike and go to the next village and do the same thing.
That story has remained in my heart for 10 years, though often it has gotten muted by time and busyness. But it was a turning point in the direction of the young coffee roasting business. It was the moment that we decided that Mission Cup (our previous business name) would be dedicated to the gospel ministry work in India.
Coffee, in a sense, is our "drum" - a way to draw interest. But it has never really been just about coffee. Ultimately, it is the gospel.
I need this reminder today, and every day.
