Y’all know what we often take for granted? Being able to grab a meal on our lunch break. Last night, I drove an hour and a half to an event and only served 14 people. I headed home with a lot of fresh food still left. Around 10:30, my sister called and asked, “Do you have anything left?” I told her, “Yeah.” Laughing, she said, “What, you gonna pull up in the parking lot and cook for me?” She was just trying to make sure she had dinner before her overnight shift started. I laughed, asked her when their first break was, and without realizing it, her joke planted an idea.
After I picked up Khyis, I went home, left my trailer hooked up, rested for a little while, and when it was time, I headed back out to do what God has blessed me to do: love on people the way He has loved on me. I told my sister to let everyone know the food was free.
In just 30 minutes, we served more than 25 overnight employees tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and rice bowls. Some were walking, some were running, but every single one of them was smiling. Watching them enjoy a hot meal before getting back to work reminded me that kindness doesn’t have to be complicated.
I could’ve gone home focused on what I didn’t make, but God had a different plan. What I thought was a disappointing night became an opportunity to remind people they are seen, appreciated, and valued. So the next time you grab your favorite meal off the shelf or reach into the freezer for ice cream, remember the people working through the night to make that possible. They may never meet you, but every shift they work makes life a little easier for the rest of us. ❤️
