Wine of the Week - May 26- June 1, 2019

2013 Tenuta di Capraia Chianti Classico Effe 55 Gran Selezione

Did you know that different regions have many different designations to classify their wine? The newest designation in Italy, decreed in 2014, within Chianti Classico is Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, which was developed to denote wines of superior quality. The designation requires wine to be 100 percent estate fruit, with at least 30 months of maturation in oak barrels. Many wineries source their fruit from a single vineyard. Not every vintage is great enough to be qualified - which is why it's said these rare wines will shine and impress! For $36 bucks, we think you should get two! One for you, one to share.

Tasting Notes: This red combines pure Sangiovese flavors of cherry and berry with earthy, savory and wild herb notes, making for a complex mix. These elements are matched to a dense, tannic structure that some may find on the dry side, but this will come alive with food. It has a terrific finish—and it's still a youngster. Best from 2020 through 2033.

2015 NORTON PRIVADA BORDEAUX BLEND

Tasting Notes: Ripe blackberry and black cherry aromas are a touch candied, with a mulchy hint of tree bark lending earthiness. The palate on this Bordeaux blend is full and lush, with a beam of tartaric acidity. Blackberry and cassis flavors weigh in by the ton, while this is toasty and coffee-flavored on a calm, bulky finish. A blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink through 2024.
