What the duck did you think we were gunna do?? 🧐

We weren’t playin’ when we said we were celebrating opening day of duck hunting season here in Virginia tomorrow, 10/9!

We’ve got all of our ducks in a row 😉 and we are READY for one of the most prepped for— decor wise— events we’ve ever had. 🦆

It’s simple. Margie's Coffee Spot is the Duck Blind. JBohnBishop Mercantile is the Marsh.

Spend your Friday out on the Mercantile Marsh with us, get in the Duck Blind for something yummy to drink, and get to callin’ them ducks. There are plenty flyin’ but don’t be confused with the paper ones. Those are NOT the ducks you’re hunting for.

You wanna keep your eyes peeled for the mini resin ducks that are attached to a white JBohnBishop card. There are dozens hidden around the store. Some are decoys, some have fun discounts and prizes attached. After you’ve found five decoys in a row you’re out… some days out on the water are just like that. 😒

We cannot wait for you to experience our first ever Hunting for a Duck: Margie’s Duck Blind + The Mercantile Marsh — PS: we’re a Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour Rest Stop all weekend long and we’re poppin’ up a complimentary Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn bar for you to sample on the go. Huntin’ ducks, touring homes or both… we’ll make sure you’re well caffeinated and stocked on snacks! 💚

On Saturday we had the honor of being a part of Taleah Tuck’s Bingo & Fashion Show fundraiser, The Lorent Legacy, which gave 100% back to Lake Christian Ministries here at SML!

Having the J Bohn girls share the runway with Taleah’s was so much fun! At only 21 years old, this girl is doing big things in our community and we’re so proud to support her!

Special thanks goes out to Sara Taylor, Margaret Bryant (Margie's Coffee Spot) and for spending their Saturday night being the absolute most gorgeous models, helping to raise money for such a wonderful cause. 🤗

Y’all have been waiting on this for FIVE years! 😅

As of today, 10/6, we have made some of the biggest alterations to our hours since opening in 2022. NO MORE just opening at noon. We’ll be 10-5pm Tuesday-Friday (& Sundays will remain 12-4), allowing us more time with our Margie's Coffee Spot friends!

The beautiful French pocket doors that Margaret’s husband installed to have closed when she’s open and we’re not have been serving as the best “storefront window,” allowing y’all to peer in to see our clothing line. Now, if you’re in at 10am on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, you can walk on through!

Opening Thursdays and Fridays at 10am since the launch of the Coffee Bar in August has proven itself so we’re confident in these changes. Rest assured— we do not take or make alterations to our hours lightly. There’s always research and testing to back it.

Once, a long time ago, we asked what worked for everyone on our hours and the response we received from one customer completely stuck with us. “Do what works best for you and your staff. We’ll be there either way!” That meant so much to us and the truth is, what we’ve been doing has worked and it hasn’t been until now that we feel super comfortable with the change. That Coffee Bar stays poppin’ so here we are! 💁‍♀️🥰🤣

You’ll see below this says “October Hours.” We only titled it as that since we’re heading in to the holiday season. We certainly won’t be taking any hours away but potentially adding hours if anything to give y’all the maximum opportunity to holiday shop! 😍

This Friday is Opening Day of Duck Season here in Virginia, and since the beautiful mallard duck is having a major moment in both fashion and home decor, we think that’s more than enough reason to celebrate. (J Bohn's husband is also a big duck hunter so that may have also been a little bit of the inspiration.) 😉

Start your day tucked into The Duck Blind, aka Margie's Coffee Spot, with a hot coffee made for those early, first-light kind of mornings, then head out into the Mercantile Marsh because we're seein' ducks and the hunt is ON.

We’ll have mini mallard duckies hidden throughout the boutique, and if you bag a bird, you’ll bag a prize too. Keep your eyes extra sharp because a few special ducks may be worth a little more 👀 and somewhere in the flock, there just might be a GOOSE waiting to turn our hunt into a proper game of the only and only, Duck, Duck, Goose.

By the end of our JBohnBishop Book Club Launch Party, eighteen of us had gathered—basically DOUBLE what we originally expected! And if you were in the room, you know… while that might sound like a lot for one book club, it felt JUST RIGHT. 🥰

💁‍♀️There’s a reason we refer to it as a “Boutique” Book Club. Over the last five years, JBohnBishop Mercantile has been about thoughtfully chosen details, meaningful connections, and experiences that make folks feel better when they leave than when they came in.

📚 Our Book Club is an extension of that. The selected reading inspires the evening, and we get to create an entire experience around it, down to the tiniest details. Curating special things for special people to enjoy is J Bohn’s passion. Having Margie’s Coffee Spot in-house makes gathering here even more like home!

☕️ Book Club members get to enjoy the perk of after hours access to Margie’s on discussion night from 5:45-6:30pm. There will always be a curated menu of drinks with names and references you’ll recognize from the pages. We are all so dang spoiled to have Margaret’s incredible talent in hospitality and a beautifully designed Coffee Bar that she designed for us to spread out snacks and really make ourselves at home.

📸 Someone said Thursday night, “Most people wouldn’t go all out like this!” Knowing those little details were noticed and appreciated meant so much. Then came your texts and inbox messages about the joy you felt afterward, and we were officially on Cloud 9. Finding happiness in the small things and sharing it with others is exactly the point.

🪑We know attendance will vary with each book and whatever plans y’all already have on the first Thursday of each month. But we can absolutely picture an evening with 35+ of us, and THAT would be such a sweet blessing! We have room to grow and a plan to keep things cozy: smaller discussion groups throughout the boutique, then coming back together to share highlights. More people to connect with, while still making space for everyone.

October 1... you have arrived! 📖🖤🗝️

Welcome to the Crawford Estate where we’re officially launching the JBohnBishop Book Club this evening, and for our very first gathering, we’re stepping straight into the unsettling world of Verity.

J Bohn got a little carried away and brought all the details of this creepy estate to life. Whether you plan to Book Club it with us tonight or genuinely just loved this read and can't wait to see the movie adaptation releasing tomorrow, you'll wanna get your picture with Verity's bedroom door. You may even take a seat at her desk where she wrote down every single one of her secrets. 😵‍💫

The purpose of the JBohnBishop Book Club is not just to say "oh, we have a cute little book club that meets monthly" but to create another layer of our boutique experience themed around each book selection, bringing pieces of the story to life through the setting, mood, conversation and little collectible details.

We cannot WAIT to gather around tonight, talk books, share theories, debate that ending and kick off what we hope becomes one of our favorite traditions at the Mercantile.

The JBohnBishop Book Club Launch Party happens TOMORROW NIGHT, Thursday, October 1 from 6-8pm. The book discussion will be on Colleen Hoover's, Verity, which so many of you have already read and because of that, was one of the main inspirations for choosing this book. That, and the movie adaptation literally comes out FRIDAY! PS: Its playing at Westlake Cinema at 4 & 7pm!

A MAJOR perk to attending Book Club is that you'll have after hours access to our Coffee Bar (Margie's Coffee Spot) so you can sip & discuss! This option is ONLY for those wishing to attend Book Club. The bar will be closed from 3pm until roughly 5:45pm when we expect our first clubbers to arrive. No orders will be accepted after 6:30pm as your sweet barista, Margaret, will be going on her 13th hour of work! Goodbye! 😂
