_____

Chara Couture (she/her) is a freelance fashion illustrator and the digital doll of the Quad Cities. A local drag performer who moved to the area in 2024, most of her free time is spent illustrating original costume designs, making mixes, or playing JRPGs.

She’s SO excited to discuss Plastic, Prism, Void with everyone! At a time where we’re surrounded by, frankly, traumatizing news on the daily, she chose a title with trans characters in the spotlight, romance, action, and 90s anime nostalgia—all to make something that sounds like such a fun romp! Who doesn’t love a classic enemies-to-lovers storyline, after all?

______

Plastic, Prism, Void: Part One is out on Tuesday, May 19th and will be available in store that day. You can order your copy through the sign up link available in our bio!

Acrasia is in the ultimate long-distance relationship: with Opus Zhao, a man from another universe. She was a trans girl who was also an intergalactic moth-goddess. He was a trans guy who piloted a giant robotic tiger. They hated each other, then fell in love, then their universes moved apart. Now, years later, he's turned up in her dimension again. What won’t she do to keep him there?

Hi friends!!

Our May book club pick is here! I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman will be hosted by our friend Claire and held on Thursday, May 28th, from 5:30-7:30 pm. The coffee bar will be available for you as well as after-hours shopping.

__________

Claire is a librarian at the Davenport Public Library. She is a native Quad Citizen and loves her community with her whole heart. She also loves her cats and her books.

Why I chose the book: I chose I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman because since reading it in 2024, I have thought about it every single day. I've never read a novel that so simply depicts human depletion at the hands of our male-centered society. And I've never read a book that has so ferociously made me want to hold the hands of every non-cis male identifying person around me.

About I Who Have Never Known Men:

"Deep underground, thirty-nine women live imprisoned in a cage. Watched over by guards, the women have no memory of how they got there, no notion of time, and only a vague recollection of their lives before. As the burn of electric light merges day into night and numberless years pass, a young girl--the fortieth prisoner--sits alone and outcast in the corner. Soon she will show herself to be the key to the others' escape and survival in the strange world that awaits them above ground."
