VOTERS URGED TO CHECK STATUS
Mobile County election officials are urging residents to verify their voter registration status and polling locations ahead of the May 4 deadline, warning that thousands could face delays when casting ballots in the May 19 primary election.
Officials say more than 37,000 Mobile County voters were moved to “inactive” status in 2025 following a routine audit by the Alabama Secretary of State. While inactive voters are still eligible to vote, they will be required to complete additional paperwork at the polls, which could increase wait times on Election Day.
“With the May 4 voter registration deadline approaching, now is the time to act,” said Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson. “Verifying your information before the voter registration deadline can help prevent delays and ensure your voice is heard on May 19.”
Voters can check their registration status and polling place through the state’s voter information website. Officials are encouraging residents to review their information in advance to avoid complications at polling sites.
Election officials also report multiple polling place relocations and precinct adjustments across all three Mobile County Commission districts.
In District 1, Precinct 17 will now vote at First Baptist Church in Chickasaw, replacing JC Davis Auditorium. Precinct 33 has undergone a boundary adjustment, and the Boys & Girls Club on Rice Street will no longer serve as a polling location. Precinct 51 has been moved to Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, replacing Leinkauf Elementary.
In District 2, Precinct 3 has a boundary adjustment and Bethel Baptist Church is no longer a polling site. Precinct 37 will now vote at Dauphin Way Baptist Church instead of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Precinct 46 has been relocated to St. Pius X Catholic Church Community Center, replacing Three Circle Church.
In District 3, Precinct 70 will now vote at Theodore Church of God, replacing Magnolia Springs Baptist Church. Precinct 76 has moved to Harbor Point Church from First Evangelical Methodist Church. Precinct 80 will now vote at the Dauphin Island Community Center instead of Church of the Island.
Officials stress that voters should confirm their polling location ahead of Election Day due to these changes.
The May 19 primary includes races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, other statewide offices, state legislative seats, and Mobile County sheriff.
“Every step of Mobile County’s election process is designed with safeguards to ensure accuracy,” said Judge of Probate Mark Erwin, Mobile County’s chief elections officer. “We encourage voters to confirm their information before the deadline to help ensure a smooth Primary Election Day.”
Key election deadlines include May 4 for voter registration, May 12 for absentee ballot applications by mail, and May 14 for in-person absentee voting.
Mobile County’s election process is administered by the Probate Court and overseen by Judge Erwin, with support from the Mobile County Commission. Officials say voting equipment is secured and tested, not connected to the internet, and ballots are tracked and verified through multiple checks before final results are reported.
Officials say taking a few minutes now to verify registration status can help prevent delays and ensure a smoother voting experience on May 19.
