In February 2000, the President of the United States walked in and ordered lunch...
It started the night before. Agents came through asking to see the restaurant, checking every exit. The next day they told us the President and his staff were coming for lunch! The guests already eating could stay. No one else was coming through the door.
They came hungry and ordered panchos, botanas, molcajetes, tacos, guacamole, a little bit of everything. We were told ahead of time that he didn't like cheese, so his fajita tacos came plain, no cheese. He ate them enthusiastically, dipping them in his charro beans. Then he got up, walked around the table, saw everyone else's plates, and started sampling theirs. The cheese won him over.
When he finished, he took photos with Sergio and Sandra and with every single employee in the building. His order went on the menu and it's still there: Tacos Presidente. Three fajita tacos with melted mozzarella on flour tortillas with a side of charro beans.
Forty-three years later we're still cooking the same food. Come and try the President's Tacos and you decide: to dip or no dip.
