Hoy! Mabuhay! Hello, everybody. We have an important update regarding our beloved Apoy. After 5 and a half years since opening our doors in the Kingfield neighborhood in South Minneapolis, we are announcing today our final evening service, which is to be held on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024.

We knew opening a Filipino restaurant would be our greatest endeavor, full of potential and unknown scopes. The community quite quickly made us understand that they were here to support our food, our family, and most importantly, our vision. From a global pandemic, to George Floyd, to a new inflated reality, the presence from our community has been immeasurable. Through these times we have learned how important it is to have spaces of acceptance and inclusion. And we hope Apoy has been, at bare minimum, a representative of these qualities for all who have walked through our doors.

We are endlessly grateful to our neighbors, our neighborhood, artists who have shed their hearts, karaoke singers who have shed their skins, to the friends of friends, family members with friends, beautiful loved ones of friends that have been introduced to our wooded, and partially tiled floors. Our deepest gratitude to y’all.

Though we are saying goodbye with a heavy heart to our physical location, don’t think you can get rid of us that easily. We will remain connected to our roots and reawaken our dormant food truck. Even though the next 4 weeks bring goodbyes to this brick and mortar, be sure Apoy lives on and will be available for bookings in the near future. We thank you Minneapolis, we love you Minneapolis, and we will forever hold in our hearts the memories we built within these walls.

Maraming Salamat Po ❤️

Goatroper is led by Abbey Janii & Mike Lee, who are both songwriters from South Dakota living in Minneapolis. Over the last few years, Abbey was fronting the rock band Julie Fur, while Mike was bouncing around playing his weirdo folk songs for anyone who would listen. After releasing their solo efforts “Prairie Roads” & “Pick Me Up Café,” they began work on a new project playing each other’s tunes. Behind them are an incredible cadre of musicians, bringing you twangy, folksy rock’n’roll outta the heartland.

“When people ask me what type of music I make, I tell them I focus on storytelling. Practically, it falls into the indie-pop genre, but the songs I write are also heavily influenced by my background in jazz and musical theatre. I look to foster joy and creativity in the listeners of my music. I hope you find that to be true for you!”

Alanna’s first full-length album, Diary of an Artist, released this past June alongside her already published debut EP, Cleaning House. Currently, she is working on a Christmas Jazz Cover EP set to release in November! You can find her music on all streaming platforms.

Bring your instruments! Bring your voices! Bring your ideas!

Join us this Friday, 7/28 as we welcome Mayda for an open jam! 8pm & 9pm. Happy hour till close. See you all there!

If Oreo had a new limited flavor, they couldn't even come close to the flavor profiles of MAYDA. Mayda is a self crafted Korean Adoptee artist. She has been writing and performing original music, gaining local and international ears for over 10 years.

Although Mayda has over 8 albums, she has begun to cut her teeth into theater. Mayda has written a one woman show, DeMayda'd that debuted at the Guthrie Theater and then at the Bryant Lake Bowl. She was in Cambodian Rock Band and Hedwig is also under her theater belt.

Whether it be writing, singing, acting, producing, and/or recording, Mayda has been able to carve out her own place on and off stages around the world.
