Pancakes, waffles, cheeseburgers, and Swedish Meatballs are gonna take a break this Friday, January 23rd while we stand with our neighbors, Northeast Minneapolis, and the Twin Cities at large in observance of the General Strike.

We hope you do as well.

15 years ago we chose this quiet corner at 29th & Johnson to build a space that reflected the diversity, community, kindness, and inclusivity of Northeast Minneapolis.

This neighborhood is ours. This city belongs to all of us. But it doesn’t really feel that way right now.

And yet…we have the courage to be hopeful.

We stand shoulder to shoulder with our friends and neighbors in this time of fear, uncertainty, violence, and disruption. The diversity of Northeast Minneapolis is our greatest asset and has made us what we are; we wouldn’t be here without it. We are strengthened by the community and support we’re witnessing everyday across this neighborhood.

We’re here to provide a safe space filled with friendly faces offering hospitality and a respite from the grief and anger we’re all living with right now. We’re just a little diner on a sleepy corner of this great city. And we’ll continue to be a place where our shared humanity can be best expressed through a simple act: sharing a meal together with friends and neighbors. We hope we can provide a semblance of support and comfort to you.

Please continue to stand with this community and support the restaurants and small businesses of Northeast Minneapolis so we can get through this time together. Be safe. Peace & love to you all.

Today is our 15th Anniversary of serving comfort food at the corner of 29th & Johnson in Northeast Minneapolis. We’re closed on Mondays and celebrating as a team tonight with our friends at

This milestone feels extra special. In September we renewed our lease for another 10 years and refreshed our space with new colors, carpeting, and bathrooms. We’re committed to Northeast and overwhelmed by the loyalty shown to us over a decade and a half. 

This business can be tough, but our incredible team makes it easier. We still have 4(!) team members from our opening staff and many more who’ve been with us 10+ and 5+ years. We are so blessed. 

As a kid in the early 90s I loved staying up late watching Cheers reruns—a warm place where everybody knows your name seemed like a place I’d want to be. That’s what we’ve built at Hazel’s Northeast. I’m so grateful.

We’d love to see you this week, raise a glass to the last 15 years, and look forward to sharing more hospitality with you in the years to come.

We’re closing early TODAY June 28th at 2pm.

We’re closed for July 4th and only open for brunch on July 5th.
