HUGE NEWS, TWIN CITIES: Our Bloomington location is officially becoming Smack Shack Steak on September 15th!

This has been a labor of love for a long time - a wood-fired steakhouse and seafood concept we’ve been dreaming about, planning and building piece by piece.

The new menu brings together USDA Prime steaks and seafood - from Alaskan king crab and Maine lobster to snapper and ahi tuna - with much of it cooked over our massive 10-foot wood-fired grill, fueled by real Minnesota hardwood.

We’ve expanded the bar program too, with a deeper Napa Valley wine list, rare and allocated bourbons, and plenty of steakhouse-worthy cocktails.

And at the heart of it all is still the Smack Shack you know: great seafood, a little irreverence, and the kind of food and hospitality we’ve been proud to serve the Twin Cities for more than 15 years. Smack Shack Steak is something new for Bloomington, built from everything we’ve learned and loved along the way!

Chef Josh Thoma and Chef Ben Pichler have drawn on their experience collaborating as chefs to develop this menu, and we can’t wait for you to taste what they’ve created.

Behind the scenes, our team has also been hard at work transforming the restaurant with new lighting, linens, tableware and plenty more. Thank you to everyone who’s been patient with us while we’ve been getting it just right.

TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT, Y’ALL - this is your moment to show up for Franny!!

Franny has given so much love to her whole North Loop restaurant family over the years and now she needs ours after losing her partner, Cooper, in June, completely out of nowhere, and now she’s navigating raising their son, Arthur, with the help of friends and family.

On Thursday, 8/13, from 5 to 9 PM let’s pour that love right back into her and her little boy at Modist Brewing!!

Grab a plate (shrimp boil, build-your-own mac and pasta, snow cones, etc), bid on the silent auction, snag some raffle tickets, and let the kids run wild with henna, balloons, crafts, and a DJ. It’s Totally free and totally for Arthur’s future.

OKAY, TWIN CITIES, WE NEED YOU FOR THIS ONE!!

Our dear friend, Franny, has been part of our North Loop restaurant family for so long, and if you’ve ever met her you know exactly what we mean when we say she just makes people better just by knowing her. This June she lost her partner Cooper, completely unexpectedly, and she’s now navigating life as a single mom to their son Arthur, who is just over a year old. Family and friends have been showing up for her in every way they can, and now it’s our turn too.

SO. On Thursday, August 13th from 5 to 9 PM, we’re all showing up at Modist Brewing to wrap Franny and Arthur in the kind of love this community is so good at giving!! A ton of North Loop neighbors have generously donated items and their time so that we can roll out a huge raffle and silent auction and raise a ton of money for Arthur’s future!

Come hungry because there’s gonna be a shrimp boil, a build-your-own mac and cheese and pasta bar, a salad bar, flavored lemonade, snow cones, and cookies.

THIS IS A FREE, KID-FRIENDLY EVENT with tons to do including:

We lost a true friend of the Twin Cities restaurant community with the passing of Sue Zelickson.

For decades, Sue was one of the biggest supporters of local chefs and restaurants. She had an incredible ability to bring people together, make connections and champion the people who make this food community what it is. If you were opening a restaurant, starting something new or just trying to find your way in this business, Sue was someone you wanted in your corner and we were incredibly fortunate to have her in ours.

Sue supported Smack Shack from the beginning, as she did SO many chefs and restaurants around the Twin Cities. She showed up. She encouraged all of us. She connected people. And she genuinely wanted to see everyone succeed.

Whenever Josh Thoma would ask Sue how she managed to do everything she did and whether she ever slept, her answer was always the same:

“I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”

That was Sue. She was always going, always showing up for people, and always doing something for someone else.

Dear friend, you certainly earned your rest ♥️

Thank you for believing in Smack Shack, and for everything you did for our beautiful restaurant community. We will miss you dearly.

Rest in peace, Sue Z.
