Gatherings Cafe We strive to provide accessible, healthy, Indigenous food and knowledge to the urban Native and greater community in a good way.

We serve fresh, locally grown foods that are prepared using innovation mixed with ancestral knowledge. A community-embraced cafe that encourages living healthy, eating healthy and education through ancestral knowledge. Gatherings Cafe serves fresh, locally grown foods that are Indigenous and prepared in healthy ways. We are in the heart of the urban Native American community where people gather to catch up with friends and family. A place that brings about tradition, culture and fabulous food. Our goal is to educate the community and promote decolonized diets to improve the health of the Native population that has been severely impacted by colonization and the resulting historical trauma and have led to epidemics of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other diet-related health problems.

Boozhoo! Aŋpétu kiŋ!

Gatherings Cafe will be closed Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18.

We will be taking time away to cook dinner for the Minneapolis American Indian Center Annual Fundraising Gala on Thursday, September 17.

Apps and dinner will be made by Chef Vern and our Gatherings kitchen team. We will also have specialty teas during the social hour at 5:30pm.

Gatherings Cafe will also be closing off any new catering orders from Monday, September 14 to Tuesday, September 22.

🎉We're celebrating our 10th birthday this year! 🎉

Gatherings Cafe has come a long way since we opened our doors inside the Minneapolis American Indian Center a decade ago -- we started as a small cafe and catering operation, then pivoted to preparing meals for our Elders during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2024 we reopened in a new kitchen and dining space as part of the center's historic renovation and expansion.

The smoke outside is hazardous and can negatively impact everyone, especially those most vulnerable like our Elders and children. The center is open today and is intended to be a safe communal space, but we ask folks to please protect yourself and your relatives by taking precautions, such as:

🏠 Staying indoors if possible.
😷 Wearing a well-fitted N95 mask if you do go out.
🍃 Setting your home and vehicle air conditionings to recirculate, rather than bring in air from outside.
🏋️‍♀️ Avoiding outdoor work, exercise, or strenuous activity. Our Fitness Center is open today from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. if needed.
❤ Checking on Elders, neighbors, pets, and anyone who may need assistance.
💧 Drinking lots of water and staying hydrated.

The Air Quality Alert remains in effect through 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, July 17, though we encourage people to monitor the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency forecast for updates.
