There was a time when we had to make the tough decision to close the shop and remodel.

At the time, it felt like a huge setback. We didn’t know exactly what was ahead, but we knew we were building something better.

And now… look at what came from it. ❤️

The transformation, the growth, the memories, and most importantly, all of YOU who have supported us along the way. What once felt like a difficult chapter turned into the foundation for something we’re incredibly proud of.

Sometimes you have to close a door for a little while to build something worth opening again.

Looking back now, we wouldn’t change a thing.

Sammy’s Avenue Eatery — A North Minneapolis Gem

Located on West Broadway in North Minneapolis, Sammy’s Avenue Eatery is more than a neighborhood café—it’s a place built around good food, community, and connection.

Founded by Sammy McDowell, the eatery opened in 2012 with a simple vision: serve great food while creating a welcoming space where neighbors could gather, relax, and feel at home. Known for its delicious sandwiches, breakfast offerings, coffee, catering, and warm customer service, Sammy’s quickly became a beloved fixture on the North Side.

Sammy was also deeply committed to his community. His restaurant became a gathering place and, especially during challenging times, a source of support and hope for people throughout North Minneapolis.

After Sammy’s passing in 2024, his family reopened the restaurant, carrying forward the legacy he built and continuing to serve the community he cared so deeply about.

Today, Sammy’s Avenue Eatery remains a special part of West Broadway—a place where a good meal comes with a little hospitality, history, and heart. 💛
