☕🥂 Turning 47 calls for a throwback!

This is me at 16, being interviewed for the local paper right here at Kitchens back in 1996 — I guess I’ve always been at home in this place. 😊

Now I own it, and I’m turning 47 today! When I was born, coffee cost around 47 cents. So to celebrate my birthday, I’m bringing those prices back this Saturday & Sunday only:

The world lost Dolly Parton today, and country music lost its queen. But to measure her only by music and Grammy wins is to miss most of who she was. She said she’d rather be remembered for her heart than her hair — and she lived that out.

I personally loved her wit. Once I gave a speech about leading with humor in the workplace and used her famous quote as an example of her self-deprecating humor style: “I’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb… I also know I’m not blonde.”

She was one of the sharpest business minds in entertainment. She built Dollywood, a resort, restaurants, and fought hard to keep ownership of her own songs — decisions that let her keep giving on her own terms for her entire life.

Then there’s the Imagination Library, the program that mailed a free book to children every month from birth until school age. What started in her home county grew to deliver over 200 million books worldwide. In a divided country, she was something close to universally beloved, never preaching, always leading with warmth.

Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for sharing your beautiful light with the world.

KITCHENS HARDWARE & DELI — MINEOLA, TEXAS 🤠

Sometimes you just need a good old-fashioned comfort-food lunch, and that’s exactly what I found at Kitchens Hardware & Deli in Mineola! ❤️🍴

I went in for lunch and had one of the most delicious chicken fried chicken plates ever! 😍🐔 The chicken was SO tender and juicy, smothered in creamy, dreamy cream gravy 🥛. It came with two sides, and I went with mashed potatoes and fried okra 🥔🌽 — and let me tell you… SO GOOD! 🙌🏼🔥

My boy went with the Two Egg Special 🍳🥓, with over-medium eggs, hash browns, Texas toast and bacon. Now THAT is a Texas breakfast! 🤠❤️

And there’s something extra special about Kitchens. This longtime Mineola landmark has been part of the community since 1899, when it began as a hardware store before growing into the restaurant and gathering place people know today. 🏪❤️ It has such a neat piece of Mineola history wrapped into it.

And guess what?! 👀🎉 The hardware and deli side is about to reopen, bringing even more of that old Kitchens character back! 🔨🏪❤️
