While Peru’s cuisine is world-class and award winning, some of the best authentic Peruvian dishes are found on the street at open- air markets or mobile food vendors. You’ll find a wide variety of street food in Peru, but one of the most popular snacks is the empanada. Triciclo Peru is a project that shows tribute to the Peruvian working class, who use their creativity and talent to make a living

for their families. Our trailer represents the typical peddler: a make-shift unit with a large basket, three wheels and pedals, also known as a tricycle. Our mission is to share with Wisconsinites the marvel of Peruvian culture by offering a robust taste of authentic Peruvian street food. You’ll experience typical Andean flavors like garlic, onion, Peruvian yellow pepper, and turmeric complemented by a choice of juicy chicken, ground beef, spicy sausage, or sweet potato; all enveloped in a buttery, flaky crust baked to perfection. It is no small feat to replicate one of the world’s most renowned cuisines but Triciclo Peru is doing just that, empanada by empanada.

Our Story

As in many South American countries, eating in the street in Peru is very common. While Peru’s cuisine is world-class and award winning, some of the best authentic Peruvian dishes are found on the street at open- air markets or mobile food vendors. Amy, a Milwaukee native and foodie, served in the Peace Corps in Peru from 2013 to 2016 and fell in love with many things- empanadas in the street being one of them. Another (and slightly more significant): her now husband, Mario. Mario is a Lima native, futbol extraordinaire, and excellent chef. They moved to Milwaukee together in 2017 and made it their mission to bring Peru with them.
