Dutchland Dairy - More than a Dairy store (Historical Page) Milwaukee-based Dairy Store/Restaurant chain known as DUTCHLAND DAIRY. This page is a fan page of that store.

Founded by Joe Clark in 1935, was a popular place known for its "broasted" chicken, fish, burgers, onion "haystacks", frozen custard, & glass milk jugs. For over fifty years, there was a Milwaukee-based Dairy Store/Restaurant chain known as DUTCHLAND DAIRY. DUTCHLAND DAIRY SONG:

When original owner Joe Clark sold the restaurants to B&G Foods from Chicago, it went downhill. Tom Bolaris represented B&G Foods and had supervised the overall operations until Dutchland Dairy failed financially. We invite you to check out the various classic Dutchland Dairy ads placed during the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. Notice the logos, little Dutch girl, and the stores change as the years progress. Who brought frozen custard to Milwaukee?

Dutchland Dairy’s founder (Joe Clark) actually introduced Milwaukee's first frozen custard via an earlier venture.

Joe Clark opened Clark’s Frozen Custard in 1935 (which later evolved into the Dutchland Dairy chain, where custard was also sold). Paul Gilles worked for Joe Clark at a Clark’s custard location before opening Gilles Frozen Custard later in 1938.

The Custard Timeline
* 1935: Joe Clark opens Clark's Frozen Custard on Capitol Drive, bringing the treat to Milwaukee before later establishing Dutchland Dairy.
* 1938: Paul Gilles opens Gilles Frozen Custard on Bluemound Road after learning the trade from Joe Clark.
